I was walking on the boulevard, smoking a cigarette. I still hadn't quit, but I was smoking less than before. The sun was shining, the ocean was calm and there was absolutely no wind. Another hot day in Los Angeles. I took a puff of my cigarette when I heard someone behind me. "Emma!", I heard. I turned around and saw Jake approaching me. "Fuck", I thought to myself. "Jake", I said. "There you are. I've been trying to reach you for weeks now. What's up?", he said. "I'm sorry, I kinda forgot to.. Jake, listen. I haven't been the best girlfriend lately." "It's okay. I know how you can be sometimes", he said. "You don't understand.. I uh, I think we should break up." He stopped and looked at me. "I kinda figured that was what you wanted, but why not tell me earlier." I shrugged my shoulders. "I'm sorry. I'm really bad at these things", I said. "It's okay, really. I hope you get her someday", he said. I stopped and frowned. Did he really just say that? "See you around", he said as he looked down. I nodded as he walked away.

I brushed it off and kept walking. "I did get her", I thought to myself. "And I should be happy about that." I took out my phone and called Lily. "Hey, where are you?", I asked. "At work. I finish my shift in half an hour. Why?", she said. "Great, I'm coming to pick you up." I hung up my phone and went back home to get my car. I pulled out of the drive way and hit the highway. My phone buzzed and I checked it. A text from Lily. "What's it about?", it said. "Just be ready x", I texted back. I got to her work within 10 minutes.

I was waiting for a while when I finally saw her walk out the door. She noticed me and got in the car. "Hey baby", she said and pecked my lips. I smiled. "Hey, how was work?", I asked. "Shitty. But I'll get over it. Where are we going?", she asked. "To my house." I started the car and drove off.

After 10 minutes, I pulled up in the drive way. We got out of the car and Lily stopped. "Seriously, what are we doing here?", she asked. I didn't say a thing and just opened the front door. "Mom? Dad?", I said. "Over here sweety", my mom said from the kitchen. "Where is dad?", I asked. "He's upstairs, taking a shower. He should be down in a bit." I nodded.

"How have you been Lily?", my mom asked. "Good, thanks. And thanks again for the necklace", she said pulling it out from underneath her shirt. My mom smiled. "You're welcome honey."

My dad walked into the kitchen. "Hey ladies", he said. "Good, sit down", I said. He looked confused but did as I said. Lily just stood there, having no idea what was going on.

"Mom, dad, I want to tell you something", I said. I looked at Lily and back at my parents. "Lily and I... We're a thing." As soon as I finished my sentence, my parents just smiled. "A thing?", my dad asked. I nodded. "I love her, and I wanted you to know. I don't want this to be a secret anymore." I looked back at Lily and she was smiling. My parents looked at each other and back at me. "Finally", they said in sync. "Finally?", I asked. "Yes! We've known for a while that you had a thing for each other." I laughed. "How?" "Well, you wouldn't stop talking about her and the difference between your behaviour with Jake and Lily was so different. It had to be that."

"Well, that was unexpected", I said. My parents smiled. "We'd love to have you over for dinner sometime, Lily", my sad said. Lily smiled. "I'd love to." I walkd up to my parents and hugged them. "Thanks for being such cool parents", I said. "Thanks for being such a cool daughter", my dad said. We all laughed.

"Ok, I'm gonna take Lily home. See you in a bit." I grabbed Lily's hand and we both walked out.

"I can't believe you told them", she said as we got in the car. I smiled. "Well, I realised that it was something that needed to be told. Someone helped me make that decision." She leaned over and softly kissed me on the lips.
