"Is that your girlfriend?", the lady next to me asked. I nodded. "Yes ma'am." She smiled. "She's cute", she said. I smiled back at her.
"Very." "Is this your first trip together?", she asked. I nodded. "Can you tell?" "Me and my husband were the same on our first trip. We got seated separately and there was just so much stress", she said. I chuckled. "It's not like that. She got her ticket last minute. I got mine like a week ago." She frowned. "So it's not a vacation?" I shook my head. "It's a long story", I said. "Oh honey, I got plenty of time", she said.

"Well..", I started. "I'm a writer, sort of. And I sent my first book to a publisher, who wants to publish it now. They wanted to meet me, in New York. I told Lily about it, but she didn't want to come with me. So we got in a bit of a fight. I booked my ticket online, thinking I would only need one."

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to flight 742 to New York. The weather is perfect, with 74°F and a soft breeze, the flight will take approximately 2,5 hours. Please take your seat and enjoy the flight."

I fasted my seat belt and took a deep breath.

"First time flying?", she asked. "No, I'm just really scared of heights", I said. "It'll be okay", she said.

I continued the story while the plane was preparing to take off.

"I get your point, but I also get her. What if you two don't end up together, you'll have to do it alone anyways", she said. I frowned. "Are you saying she wants to break up with me?" She shook her head. "Oh no honey. I'm just saying IF it happens, you won't be able to ask her for advice or ask her to come to a meeting or something." I nodded. "I see your point", I said.

I dug my nails into the arm rests and soon as the plane picked up its speed. My heart starting racing, and my legs were shaking. I saw Lily looking at me, worried. I started breathing heavily and I closed my eyes. After a minute or two, felt the plane lift off the ground.

"It's okay honey. We're up", the lady said. "Oh leave the girl alone", her husband said. "Henry.. please", she said. I slowly opened my eyes, looking out the window. "Oh no", I said. I shut the shades and tried to relax.

The seatbelt lights went on, meaning they could come off. The lady got up and walked over to Lily. They exchanged some words and Lily got up and sat next to me.

"Are you okay?", she asked. "I'm nauseous", I said. "I'll be right back." She got up and walked over to one of the stewards. She returned with a bottle of water.

"Here, it should help", she said. "This is one of the reasons I wanted you to come", I said and took a sip. She nodded. "I'm sorry, but I'm here now. I'm not going anywhere", she said. "What about the lady?", I asked. "She said she wanted to trade seats with me." I looked over to the lady and smiled at her, showing I was thankful for what she did.

I finally relax a little, taking another sip of water. Suddenly the plane started shaking. I sat up straight and started panicking. "We're gonna die, are we?!", I said. "Babe, calm down. It's just a bit of turbulence", Lily said. She held my hand and softly kissed it. "Try to sleep a little. I'll make sure nothing happens, okay?" I shook my head. "Do you think I can sleep right now?" She sighed. "It'll make the flight much more pleasing", she said. "For you or for me?" "For you of course. You can just relax and not panic everytime the plane moves." I nodded. "Maybe I'll try."

I leaned my head against the wall and closed my eyes, trying to forget about the fact we were miles up in the air.
