As we walked back, I spotted Jake. "Oh no", I said to myself. "What?", Lily. "What?" "You said something", she said. "Oh it was just because I forgot to get some groceries." She smiled. "We can stop by the store if you want." I nodded. "If you want to eat then, yes we should."

"Hey", Jake said as he approached us. "Uh, hi..", I said. Lily just smiled at him. "What are you up to?", he asked. "Just going home", I said. He nodded. "Okay. Uh, I'll see you around." "Yeah, see you around." He awkwardly waved. "Bye."

We continue walking. "What was that?", she asked. "What was what?", I asked. "Well, that awkward conversation." I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know. It's probably still weird for him to see us together", I said. "I guess. Eventually he will have to get used to it." I nodded.

We stopped by the grocery store for some stuff.

"I keep thinking about that thing with Jake. Could you feel the tension?", she said as we stepped inside the house. "Let it go. It's probably nothing", I said. I put the bags on the kitchen counter and started unpacking them. "It was almost like.." She looked at me. "Did something happen between you two?", she asked. I didn't say anything. "Emma." I turned around. "What?" "Did something happen between you two?!", a little louder this time. My heart started racing and my palms started sweating. "Fuck", I thought. "I.." And before I couldn't say anything else, she dropped the bags. "I knew it. I knew something was up", she said. She put her hands on the top of her head and sighed.

"What happened?", she asked after a while. I guess she needed to calm down. "Nothing", I said. "How dare you say it's nothing when you just said something happened. I'm gonna ask again, what happened?" I sighed. "When I went out for a run, I ran into Jake. We had lunch and did some trampoline jumping on the beach. One thing lead to another, and we sort of.. we almost kissed", I said. Tears formed in her eyes. "You.. kissed?", she said. "No! Almost..", I said. "That doesn't make it any better." A tear rolled down her face.

"I thought I could trust you", she said after a while. "I thought we could be honest to each other. I guess I was wrong." I shook my head and grabbed her hands. "No, you can trust me.." She pulled her hands back. "Don't touch me", she said. "Lily.." She shook her head. "Am I not enough for you anymore?", she asked. My heart stopped. "What?", I said. "Of course you are. You're more than enough. We just got carried away, it didn't mean anything", I said.

"I can't deal with you right now", she said. She ran upstairs and I ran after her. She collected her things from my room and packed them in a bag. "Where are you going?", I asked. "Away from here", she said. She got her things from the bathroom and packed them.

"Can't we just talk about this?", I asked. "I can't even look at you right now." I sighed. "You're being unreasonable." She turned around and frowned. "I'm being unreasonable?! You "almost" made out with your so called ex boyfriend and I'm unreasonable?! I have a right to be feeling this way", she said as tears rolled down her face.

She zipped up her bag and walked past me. I followed her downstairs.

"I'm sorry. I'm not good with words but you know that", I said. She shook her head. "I'm done", she said and walked out the front door.

"Fuck!", I yelled. I walked into the kitchen and leaned against the counter. I poured myself a glass of bourbon.

My phone rang as I poured myself another glass. "Lily?", I answered. "No.. uh, it's me." I sighed. "Jake. I don't have time to talk right now", I said. "Wait, what's going on? You sound upset", he said. "Lily and I got in a fight. Not that it's any of your business", I said. "I get it. I'll leave you to it." He hung up.

Minutes later there was a knock on the front door.

"Jake", I said.
