Chapter 5

It was a few days after our beach day. Lily and I hadn't really seen each other, but that was mostly my fault. I missed her and her jokes, but it was the best thing to do.
Lily's birthday was coming up. Which meant I had to see her again, and pretend everything was okay. The truth? It wasn't okay. All I had been thinking about was our day at the beach and the kiss we almost shared.

My phone vibrated so I picked it up. A text from Lily.

"Are you ready for my awesome birthday bash tonight?! We're going clubbing!"
I felt my heart beat in my throat.
"So excited!", I replied. To be honest, I forgot it was that night. I mean, her birthday was in 4 days.

I quickly searched through my clothes, looking for a great outfit.

I held up two pieces. A short, tight black dress with a deep v neck in one hand and a longer, tight red dress.

I held the black one in front of me and looked in the mirror. "This one says HOT." I switched the dresses. "This one says cute." I had quickly made my decision and laid out the black dress.

"Honey!", my mom yelled from downstairs. I slightly opened my door. "Yeah?" "Your dad and I are going out. We got a little present for Lily. Could you give it to her tonight?" "Sure! Have fun tonight." "Thanks honey! We love you", she said. "Love you too!"

I shut the door behind me and walked into the bathroom. I turned on the water and stepped in the shower.

The water softly hit my face as I drifted away in my thoughts.

What if she was gonna mention the kiss? What if she knows I'm in love with her? What if she tells everyone about it?

I got pulled out of my thoughts by my door shutting. I jumped and quickly turned off the water. "Hello?" No answer. I slowly stepped out and reached for a towel. I wrapped it around my body and gently opened the bathroom door.

Then I saw Lily sitting on my bed.

"For fuck's sake Lily, you scared me!" She laughed. "You keep forgetting I have your house key." I giggled. "What are you doing here? Don't you have a party to plan?" She nodded. "But you were going to help me, right?" I stayed quiet for a while. "Right?!", she said. "Yeah, yeah! Of course!" She sighed. "Don't tell me you forgot", she said. "Maybe a little", I said shrugging my shoulders.

She shook her head. "Hurry up! We gotta go." I pointed at my towel. "Nothing I haven't seen", she said and winked. I felt myself blushing. I grabbed some clothes and walked back into the bathroom. "Aw, you're no fun!"

I smiled to myself. "Oh you know I'm fun!", I said as I slipped into my clothes.

I opened the door and grabbed my makeup from my side table. "Really? You don't need that. You're beautiful. Now come on!", she said. "I'm not buying that, Lily. Give me two minutes."

I ran back into the bathroom and put on some mascara, did a killer eyeliner wing and fixed my eye brows.

"All done", I said. "Perfect. Let's go check out the club!"

She grabbed my arm and pulled me with her.

"Slow down!", I said trying to keep my balance on the stairs. "There's so much to do! I need balloons, food, alcohol, more food, more alcohol.." I cut her off. "Calm down. We have enough time. It's only.. 11 am!", I said checking my phone. "Which means we've only got 10 hours!", she said. "Only 10 hours? I'm definitely gonna get some more sleep there." She frowned. "No, you can't. You have to help me." I laughed. "We'll be done in a matter of hours. We'll have nothing to do by the time the clock strikes 4 pm. If I'm going to have to pull and all nighter, I need my sleep", I said. "We'll see." "Just trust me, and don't panic so much. Everything will be fine." "I hope you're right", she says.

We got in her car and drove to the club the party was at.
