We got to my house and I helped her out the car. "I'm sorry", she said. "For what?", I said as I opened the front door. We stepped inside and I shut the door behind us. "You were probably asleep when I called." I shrugged my shoulders. "So? You know you can call me anytime", I said. She sat on the couch and I got her a glass of water.
"I don't want to bother you with my problems. I just didn't know who else to call", she said. I handed her a glass of water and sat across from her. "It's okay, that's what I'm here for. Do you wanna tell me what happened?", I asked. She shrugged her shoulders. "Just my dad." I sat beside her and held her hand. "I saw him throwing with things. Did you got into a fight again?", I asked. She nodded. "He found one of my pay checks and he freaked out. He kept saying how I know we're in debt and I still hide money from him, so I stepped up for myself and told him whatever he does with his money, isn't my problem. This is my money, I worked hard for it and I get to do whatever I want with it. This isn't gambling money, it's money to live from." I nodded. "You did good by saying that. He'll probably realise you were right." I rubbed her arm, trying to warm her up a little. She flinched when I did that.
I frowned. "Did he hurt you?", I asked. She didn't say anything. "Did he hurt you?", I asked again. Tears formed in her eyes and she nodded. She took of the jacket and showed me her arm. It was full of bruises and a few cuts. "What did he do to you?" She shook her head. "I don't wanna talk about it." I nodded. I pulled her in for hug. As soon as her head touched my chest, she burst out in tears. "It's gonna be okay, I promise", I said. I softly kissed the top of her head and rubbed her back. "You can stay here if you want." She looked up. "I don't want to be a burden to you and your family", she said. I shook my head. "When will you realize that none of this is a burden to us. You're my girlfriend and my best friend. How can I leave you alone like that."
She pulled away and rubbed her eyes. She had makeup under her eyes and stains on her cheeks. I rubbed away her tears with my thumbs. "Wait here." I got a wet towel and sat back down. I took of the makeup that was all over her face. "There", I said. "Was I that ugly?", she asked. I smiled. "How can you ever be ugly?" She didn't say a thing. "You can go lay in my bed if you'd like", I said. She looked at me. "Will you be coming too?", she asked. "I'll be up in a bit." She gave me a small smile and went upstairs.
I leaned back and started thinking about the possibilities. I could go over there and see what's up with him? I could call the police and have him arrested? Lily wouldn't forgive me if I did that, but how else am I going to help her. I sighed and got up. I cleaned up the mess I left after dinner and did the dishes. I knew I wasn't gonna be able to fall asleep anytime soon.
I paced back and forth, trying to think of something I could do to help Lily.
I noticed it was 2 am, so I went upstairs. I quietly walked into my room and saw Lily, asleep. The light was still on. Probably because she was scared, so I kept it on. I climbed into bed and tightly wrapped my arm around her waist, letting her know she's safe. I pulled the sheets over both of us. "I won't let anything happen to you again", I whispered. I softly kissed her cheek, and relaxed. I felt a squeeze in my hand. "I love you", Lily said.
