I followed a nurse through the hallway. "She's in there", she said. "Thank you." I stopped in the doorway and saw her reading a magazine in bed. "Nice hair", I said. "Nice dress." I looked down and laughed. "Touché." I walked up to her and sat on the chair next to her bed. "How are you feeling?", I asked. "Pretty sore, but good. How about you?" "Fine. I don't even know what I'm here for", I said. "You know you had surgery, right?" I nodded. "But I don't know what for", I said. "They told me you had a  skull fracture, and it needed to be put back together or something. I think you have a metal plate in there now", she said pointing at my head. I frowned. "I didn't know it was that bad. I mean, I could walk and call 911. Why wouldn't they tell me that?" "Maybe you should ask the doctor", she said. I nodded. "I'll go find him in a bit."

"I'm glad you're okay", she said. I looked at her. "Really. I wouldn't know what to do if.. you know." I held her hand. "Let's not think about that. I'm glad you're okay too", I said. I softly kissed her forehead.

"I owe you my life, you know", she said. "What do you mean?" Tears were forming in her eyes and she held my hand tighter. "You saved me. Literally. If it wasn't for you, I'd probably be dead right now. I don't know anyone that would stand up for me like that", she said. "Don't you know anyone who would catch a punch like that for you?", I said. She chuckled and shook her head. "But I'm serious. I owe you everything." I sat on the edge of her bed. "You don't owe me anything. We've talked about this." "But that was about money", she said. "It's the same thing. I wouldn't do it if I didn't want to. But I love you and care about you, I want you to be happy and safe. I don't need anything in return everytime I do something for you", I said. She nodded. "I will do something nice in return tho. I don't care if you're gonna say no, I'll just drag you with me." I chuckled. "Fine."

"You know", she started. "When you let me talk about my future.. I meant what I said." I smiled. "I know we haven't been together for long, but I have been in love with you for years. Even as friends we wanted to get a house together. That didn't change. I can see myself grow old with you." "You don't want to see me all wrinkly", I said. She laughed. "Probably not." I smiled and leaned in the kiss her. "Be careful", she said. "Sorry." I gently kissed her on the lips. "I feel the same way", I said.

"Emma?", I heard. I turned around and saw the doctor standing in the doorway. "Yeah." "We gotta get you back to your room to run some tests", he said. I nodded. "Sure, I'll be right there." I turned back to Lily. "Don't go anywhere", I said. "Do you think I'm leaving this place in this outfit? Hell no." I laughed. "You look hot", I said and winked. "I'll see you in a bit." I pecked her lips and walked out of the room.

"Doctor, could you tell me about the surgery? What happened? Why did you have to operate on me?", I asked. He sighed. "It was pretty bad. You had a skull fracture, which we had to fix. There's a piece of metal in your head right now", he said. "Metal? So I'll attract magnets?" He laughed. "That won't happen. It's a special type of metal. No magnets will stay on there." I chuckled. "Why did no one tell me about this? And why am I even able to walk and talk?" "We didn't want you to start panicking or stressing. That would give you high blood pressure, which is bad for how you were doing. About the walking and talking, you've been asleep for 3 days. You're supposed to feel this way because of the medication you've been getting." I nodded. "Sounds complicated. I'm just happy I'm doing well."

We walked into my room and he helped me in bed. "The nurse is gonna take a bit of your blood for some tests, okay?", he said. I nodded. "No problem."
