"So you've rented the entire club?", I asked. "Just the VIP booths and a part of the dance floor. My dad wanted me to have the best night. Well, this should do." I laughed. "You know your dad is trying right?" She sighed. "Yeah, I know. But I just want him to try harder."

She slide into a booth. I sat across from her. "You okay?", I asked. She nodded. "It's just him. He abandoned me and my mom when i was 5 and now he wants to come crawling back. He can't just expect me to forgive him like that", she said. I nodded.
"Of course. No one is forcing to forgive him. But he is trying. You've been ignoring him for so long, your mom doesn't want to speak with him.. and he's still trying. He could've walked away by now. He could've just said 'ok fuck you', but he didn't. He is determined to fix things between him and you and your mother. Don't be so hard on him, okay?" She smiled a little. "You're right." She reached for my hands. "I can always count on you. Do you think I should ask him to come?"

I was so focused her hands holding mine, I could barely hear a word she said.

"Emma?" I shook my head. "Yeah." She released my hands and leaned back. "Are you okay?" I nodded. "Yeah totally! What were you saying?" "I was asking if I should invite my dad for tonight." I shrugged my shoulders. "Do you think that'd be a smart thing to do? I mean, it's your party. You're going to get drunk, dance like no one's watching and probably make out with someone." "So looking forward to the making out part", she said and softly bit her lip. "You okay there?", I asked. "I'm great."

She got up and grabbed a helium tank and a bag of balloons. "These need to be done before tonight", she said. I nodded.

She handed me the bag of balloons and walked away. "Wait, where are you going?", I asked. "I need to pick up my outfit", she said. I raised an eyebrow. "Trust me, it's worth it."

She walked out to door.

I sighed, grabbed a few balloons and filled them with helium. I continued this for another hour.

"Finally." I got up and took the helium tank to the back. I looked at the clock and dropped everything I was holding. "Fuck!". I ran to the door when I bumped into Lily.
"Where are you going?!", she said. "You're not the only one that wants to look good tonight!" And I ran out the door and got in a taxi. "152 Santa Monica Boulevard, please", I said. "Sure thing."

After what seemed like an hour, I finally got to my house. I ran inside and up to my room. I grabbed my dress from the bed and changed into it. "Girl, you look fine as fuck", I said looking in to mirror. I shook my head and walked into the bathroom. I redid my makeup, put on some cute jewelry, sprayed on some perfume and grabbed a fire red lipstick. "This should do."

On my way to the door, I grabbed the present my parents left for Lily. The club was only a few blocks away so I decided to walk. There was a 50/50 chance i would get drunk, so no driving.

After 10 minutes, I walked in. As discussed, I would be an hour early. Lily wanted to look through the schedule of the night with me, and she wanted me to help devide the waiters over the entire place.

"Ok, so the DJ will come on at 9 pm. And.." Lily got cut off by the staff manager. "Sorry to interrupt but, our bartender won't be able to make it tonight." "What?!"< Lily said. "How can this even happen. How are the guests supposed to get their drinks?" I thought about it for a while. "I'll do it", I said. "What?" "I have bartending experience, and I don't mind doing it", I said. Lily hugged me. "Oh my god, you're a lifesaver. But I will come and get you once in a while to come and dance with me", she said. I nodded. "You better." She smiled at me. "Ok, this way", the manager said. "I'll see you in a bit", Lily said. I nodded and walked with the manager.
