I wake up the next morning to my annoying 'alarm' (Makkachin licking my face) and nothing else but Viktor.
"Time to wake up, sunshine." He says. I groan and roll over onto my stomach, trying to avoid Makkachin's licks.
"Five.. more.. min.." I say, drifting back off into sleep. I feel a heavy weight land on my back and I squeak. I turn around to see Viktor laying across my back. A heavy blush crosses my cheeks and I start flailing around.
"Okay, okay, I'll get up! Just get off, you're really heavy!" I yell. He places his hand on my hair, shuffling it around. He looks at me and shows a fake disappointed expression.
"What, you don't me laying with you?" He asks.
"N-no! I mean yes? I mean, t-that's not what I meant-"
"So you don't mind me laying with you?"
"Y-yes, that's what I meant." He looks at me with a shocked expression and then sits up, bringing a finger to his chin.
"Yuri, what a naughty little boy you are."
I realize he took what I said wrongly and my face flashes pink. I wave my arms around and back up against my bedframe. "That's not what I meant!" I say frantically. He scoots closer and I try to back up, but can't.
"Are you sure Yuri?" He asks, a devilish smile on his face.
"Y-yes! Stop! You're too close!" I say, trying to push him back with my hands. He keeps coming closer and I face my head away. "S-stop!"
"Aww, Yuri.. I want to play.." He whispers. I blush and he laughs. "Okay, okay." He backs off and I breathe out in relief. That was way too close for comfort.
"Don't do that." I say. He laughs.
"Okay."
He gets up off my bed and pets Makkachin's head. "Get ready, now. Be at the rink in fifteen." He says. I nod and he walks out of the room.
My heart is still beating.
My hands are still trembling.
My legs are still numb.
But why? He's just my coach. Teasing like that is normal. It's probably just because I still see him as a star, that's all.
I throw on a pair of black athletic pants and a maroon t shirt and walk out of my room, grabbing my glasses and closing my door. I walk into the kitchen and grab a piece of toast that I'm guessing either mom or Viktor already made for me.
"I'm headed out, mom. See you later." I yell. She yells her goodbyes and I walk off.
I walk out the front door and bite into my toast, still thinking about this morning.
Thank God he backed off. That was really uncomfortable.
I walk in through the front doors of the skating rink and am immediately welcomed by Yuko's three daughters. I smile brightly at them and kneel down.
"Well, hello th-"
"WOW YURI, YOU'RE NOT FAT ANYMORE!" One of them exclaims. The smile falls off my face and I pretend to laugh.
"YOUR HAIR'S GOTTEN LONGER, ARE YOU GONNA GROW IT OUT?!" Another asks, pulling at a chunk of my hair. I clench my teeth in pain and grab her hand, pulling it away.
"IS IT TRUE YOU STILL HAVEN'T HAD SEX WITH A SINGLE GIRL?!" The other asks. My face flashes a bright red and I fall back. How do these kids even know about that kind of stuff?!
"Woah, woah now, let's not-"
"KIDS!" I hear Yuko scream. They all freeze and go running away, scared of being scolded by their mother. She comes walking towards me and grabs my hand, pulling me up.
"I am so sorry about them. They really don't know when to stop."
"I-It's okay." I stutter. She smiles in relief and I smile back.
"Sorry, I would love to stay and chat, but I have to be on the ice in approximately two minutes or else Viktor will actually kill me." I say, scratching the back of my neck. She laughs and waves it off.
"It's okay. Have fun!" She says. I smile, walking off towards the ice. I see Viktor staring at me from afar and I can't help but start to feel a little uncomfortable.
Why is he staring at me? I'm obviously coming.
"Hello, Yuri!" He says, running up to me as I sit down next to my locker. I wave and he smiles.
"Are you excited to skate?" He asks. I make a confused face.
Excited? I skate all the time.
"Yeah, I guess," I say, lacing up my skates. He sits down next to me and lays his chin in his hand.
"Sorry about this morning," he says. "I guess I got a little out of hand. You're just really fun to tease," he says, laughing. My face turns red and I begin to tie my other skate.
"I-It's okay. It's not like you did anything wrong."
He sighs and looks at me from the corner of his eyes. My heart begins to beat faster and my skin begins to burn.
Why is he staring at me?
It's not like there's anything interesting to be staring at..
"Okay. I'm ready." I say, standing up. I feel a cramp in my foot immediately stumble over, just barely missing the lockers. I squeeze my eyes shut to prepare to hit the ground when Viktor latches his arms around my waist, hoisting my upright. My body is pushed into his and I stare into his eyes.
My heart beats faster.
My face starts burning.
My hands start trembling.
He stares into my eyes for what feels like hours until finally I pull away out of his grasp and straighten out my shirt.
"S-sorry. Thanks for catching me." I say. He clears his throat and then laughs.
"Y-yeah. No problem."
And then we stand there.
Moments pass. And more.
"U-um, we should go practice." I say, walking off towards the skating rink. I hear him respond with a 'yeah' and he starts following behind me.
"Alright, warm up, Yuri." He says, sighing. He leans against the side of the rink and I nod, putting down my glasses and then skating off onto the ice. I close my eyes and replay that previous scene through my head.
Why, why did I get so nervous when he caught me? When he stared at me like that; why did my heart start to beat faster?
He probably thinks nothing of this. You're overreacting everything, Yuri.
I bring a hand up to my heart and clutch the fabric of my t shirt. I open my eyes gently and stare down at the ground.
I only got nervous because I hate being close to people. That's all.
I let out a sigh and close my eyes once again, clutching onto the fabric of my shirt tighter.
So then why.. why is my heart still beating so fast?
Why?
