Turning Back..

Chapter 16

I shoved my last case into the trunk of Jaime's car "What about my car?" I asked Kacie as Jaime shut the trunk "I'll keep it here until you get back" she pulled me into a hug "Don't stay out there forever though Deven and say hi to everyone for me" I nodded at her

"I'll be back in a few weeks I promise" she smiled at me before I got into the passenger seat of Jaime's car. I looked at him as he started fiddling with the satnav on the dashboard "What's the address of Ronnie's place?" I handed him the piece of paper in my hand. Ronnie still lived at my old place from when I used to live out in Vegas, it would be strange going back there after all these years, I hadn't been to Vegas in a long, long time. It was going to be a good five hour drive according to Hime's satnav and I wasn't sure I wanted to be in a car with Jaime for that long especially with everything that was happening right now. There'd no doubt be endless questions about what was going to happen and what both of our futures entailed. "I got some snacks and some drinks by the way, they are in that carrier bag by your feet" I opened the bag and pulled out the two bottle of water, placing one in the cup holder in the center of the car and opening the other so I could take a sip before we headed off. "So how long gone are you, about three months I'm guessing?" I nodded, we were an hour into the drive and hadn't really spoken much.

"Do you have any CD's?" I asked him 

"Yeah in the glovebox" I opened up the glovebox and looked through the cases 

"Is this your new album? I haven't heard it yet" I announced as I pulled it from the case and placed it into the CD slot "It's been out since last Summer!" 

"I know I just haven't really had the time" Jaime skipped the intro track and I instantly regretted my decision to play this album as soon as Vic's voice pumped out of the speakers. I lent my head on the window and tried to get some sleep.

Jaime woke me up an hour later and I noticed we were pulled up at a a 7 eleven "Hey I got you a slurpee" I took the slurpee from his hand

"I'm going to go take a walk, I have cramp" 

"I'll join you" Jaime announced as he jumped out of the car. We walked around the parking lott for a while, just talking about how long I was planning on staying in Vegas for "Just a month I guess, I don't want to shut you out for long Hime" he sighed

"Ok, but call me as soon as you want to come home ok?" I smiled at him

"Kacie will probably be driving out soon so Marie can spend time with Ronnie, so I'll come home with her" Jaime nodded

"Shall we get going? We still have a couple of hours to go" I nodded and we walked back towards the car.

Pulling up at the apartment complex I turned to Jaime "You coming up?" 

"Of course I am" I got out of the car and Jaime opened the trunk so I could get my cases out before we headed upstairs. I knocked on the door and Ronnie answered "Deven, Jaime, hey come on in" he opened the door and I stepped inside. The place hadn't changed all that much since the last time I'd been here, which was way over 3 years ago now. I saw Jacky sat on the couch and I ran over to him "Jacky! It's so good to see you, why did you leave so fast before Christmas? I never got to thank you" he hugged me

"I didn't want to get in the way of you and Vic, I know what happened, I'm sorry" I smiled at him

"It's ok"

"Is that why you're here now, to get away?" I nodded

"Kindda, I did a really bad thing, but we will talk about it tomorrow" I hugged him as Ronnie and Jaime came and sat down "Jaime are you staying here tonight?" Ronnie asked him
