Turning Back..

Chapter 24

Three months later--

Jaime's POV--

"Do you want me to call Kacie and the guys or something?" I asked Deven as she lay on the bed in the maternity ward she shook her head frantically, she had been having contractions for the past 24 hours and I had sat here with her through it all "you're going to have to have a cesarean because your cervix isn't dilating" The nurse stated. I looked to Deven who just nodded 

"I don't care what you have to do, just stop this pain!" she shouted at the nurse who simply smiled at her. "Ok, can you sit up and get onto this bed for me please?" the nurse asked her and Deven nodded her head quickly before getting off of the bed she was on with my assistance and getting onto the one the nurse wanted her to be on. I pulled my phone from the pocket of my jeans and text Kacie telling her that Deven had been in labour for the past 25 hours almost and that she was about to have a c section. I stood outside in the waiting area, I wasn't sure whether I was allowed in or not. The same nurse appeared and handed me some scrubs "She want's you in there with her" I smiled and pulled on the scrubs before following the nurse back into the room where they were inducing Deven. I walked round to where her head lay and stroked her hair, she grabbed my hand and squeezed onto it tightly. "Jaime I'm so scared" I rubbed the pad of my thumb over her knuckles

"It will be over soon" she nodded at me and I watched the doctors as they operated, I had to admit I was probably just as scared as Deven was, my phone buzzed in my pocket and I mentally cursed myself for not putting it on silent not that anyone seemed to notice it. A few more moment passed and then we heard the cry of a baby and I looked down at Deven, I saw her face light up for just a moment "It's a boy, congratulations" I smiled as the nurse handed me the baby, my baby "Do you have a name for him yet? So we can write it on his birth certificate" I turned to Deven, she had fallen asleep already... She hadn't even held him yet, "We did think of some, but I'll wait till we've discussed it again if that's ok?" the nurse nodded

"That's fine, also there are some friends of yours outside in the waiting room" I thanked her and then she disappeared. Over the last three months me and Deven had finally gotten down to getting a room sorted for the arrival, I'd stripped out the whole spare room and painted and decorated it all and we had sat and discussed names for hours on end but hadn't quite decided, we said we'd decide when we saw him. But obviously Deven was tired and now the pain had stopped for probably the first time in 24 hours she could finally sleep. The nurse came back into the room "He's gorgeous" she announced "Did you want me to call your friends in here or?" I shook my head

"I'll go out there, is it busy?" she shook her head

"Just your three friends" I nodded wondering who the three were, I knew one of them was Kacie, had Vic come? I looked down at my son wrapped in the little towel and then made my way out to them. It was Kacie, Mike and Tony and I grinned at them as I approached them. Deven hadn't spoken to Kacie or Mike at all since they had that stupid argument over 3 months ago so I wasn't entireley sure why they were both here. "Awwww" Kacie announced as she placed a hand over her mouth "He's adorable" I handed him to Kacie and she was looking at him with so much admiration. Mike had his arms folded across his chest and I just wish he would drop it, especially now. Tony came over and hugged me "congratulations Hime, he looks just like you" I smiled proudly 

"Thanks dude" 

"Does he have a name yet?" Mike asked and I turned to him 

"Not yet, we've discussed it but we weren't sure" Kacie handed him to Tony who looked nervous about holding a new born but he did anyway "Where's Deven?" Kacie asked "I should really apologize" I raised an eyebrow 

"Kace it's been three months and you haven't bothered, why now?" she turned to Mike and swallowed "Because I want to be there for my best friend" Mike shook his head and I knew Mike was the one keeping her away from her best friend. Tony handed me my Son back as I saw Deven being moved from the operating room to the room she was in previously. We all followed and I fell behind Kacie and Tony to speak to Mike "What's the problem Mike?" I asked him, I was tired myself so this was probably a bad idea "The problem is that we have just had to leave my Brother with Kacie's daughter back home whilst we come and celebrate the birth of his ex wife's child" I sighed there wasn't really anything I could say. Deven was awake now, but she still looked tired, she smiled when she saw me and she sat up a little, I handed her our son and her face lit up just like before "So come on, name?" Kacie asked 

"Why are you guy's here?" she asked them not looking up at any of them "I thought you said that no one liked me and that I was a waste of oxygen, so why are you here?" she looked up at Mike and I saw him roll his eyes. Kacie walked closer to Deven's bedside "What he said was wrong, he was only speaking for himself Deven" she looked up at Kacie "I've missed you and I'm sorry and I'm ashamed to admit that I put Mike before you and I shouldn't have" Just as I thought, Mike had been keeping her from seeing Dev. I shook my head at Mike and watched as Kacie and Deven admired our son "Come on, names!" Deven looked at me and I walked over to her and Kacie 

"Well I think Rowan" I announced, we had discussed this name but looking at him now, I really think it would suit him "Oh it would actually suit him so much" she looked at Deven and I knew before she wasn't that keen on it "Ok it's settled Rowan Preciado" she announced looking down at him "But what about a middle name?" she asked looking at me and then back to Kacie

"You don't have to chose one right now" Kacie announced and I watched Deven as her eyes closed again. I picked up Rowan and placed him in the little bed next to me. "Hime, you should go home and get some rest, I'll stay with her" Kacie said and I smiled

"Thanks Kacie, I'll just go take a shower and have a nap and then I'll be back" she nodded

"Take your time" 

"You know what, I think I'll join you, you can come back with me Hime" I sighed but agreed anyway it meant I didn't have to drive, although we were going in my car. 

We arrived at Mike's at around 3pm and I followed Mike into the house "Vic, I'm back and Jaime's here" I closed the front door and when I turned back around Vic was stood there with Marie at his feet "So?" Vic asked with a worried expression on his face

"She had a little boy" Vic smiled and walked over to me, giving me a hug 

"Congratulations bro" I smiled

"Thanks" I followed Vic into the front room where Mike was 

"I was going to come but I didn't think Deven would want me there at such a big moment plus someone had to look after Marie" I nodded understanding

"Honestly I think she would have prefered you to Mike" Vic raised an eyebrow at his brother

"Did you see her face when she saw me stood there" Vic shook his head at him

"What's his name?" Vic asked

"Rowan" Vic chuckled

"Row for short right?" he stated looking down at his hands, I chewed on my lip

"Is it ok if I take a shower" Mike nodded

"Sure just go up and take the spare room on the right, there's a bathroom in there too" I stood up and walked out of the awkward situation I'd just put myself in and went to get cleaned up.
