Turning Back..

Chapter 21

I grabbed the key from the mail box and went inside the apartment, I sat there at the breakfast bar for so long, I was spinning my phone between my fingers. I snapped out of my daze and unlocked my phone and writing out a text to Jacky 

Jacky: I miss you x

I stared at the message before sending it and then the door buzzer rang making me jump. I got up off of the stool and walked over to the front door opening it to see Kacie and Marie. I rolled my eyes and she narrowed hers at me as I let her into the house "Kacie what are you doing here?" I snapped at her. She turned to me 

"I thought maybe you'd want some company as Jaime isn't around tonight" I shook my head

"Look Kacie I've had a really bad day and I just want to be left alone" I walked into the kitchen as my phone buzzed and vibrated loudly on the kitchen table. She followed and placed Marie down on the floor as I picked up my phone and read the message Jacky had sent back to me. 

Jacky: Are you ok Deven? x 

I typed out a message back 

Deven: No I'm not ok Jacky, can I come back to Las Vegas? x

"Well, you seem to be ok with talking to whoever you are texting... Why is it that you can't or won't speak to me?" Kacie announced as she sat down at the kitchen table

"I don't know, alright Kacie" she smirked at me as my phone buzzed again and she grabbed it from under my hand and I watched as she read the message which would have no doubt been a reply from Jacky. "I'll call you in about five minutes" she said as she read the message out to me

"You are not going back to Vegas Deven" I sighed

"What does it matter Kacie, at least I'll be out of everyone's hair" she groaned as I stood up and walked round to her snatching my mobile from her hands and heading to the bathroom in which I locked myself in. I sat on the closed toilet seat of the tiny bathroom and looked at my reflection in the mirror across from me. I let the tears I'd been holding in since I was at my parents fall and the buzz of my phone which I was clinging to made me jump. I wiped the tears from my face and looked at the contact name, I saw it was Jacky and answered it "Jacky?"

"Hey what's wrong?" he asked and I shook my head and swallowed my tears before replying

"Honestly?" I asked him and he chuckled into the phone 

"Remember what I said to you when I came and stayed with you? You can tell me anything" I sighed

"But what if it's about you" it went silent and I bit my lip and I was sort of thankful when I heard the knock on the door "Deven? Are you ok in there?" I groaned 

"I'm fine Kacie, I'm just on the phone" she sighed

"Deven, if that's Jacky I swear to god" I rolled my eyes before shouting at her

"JUST PISS OFF KACIE!" I mentally cursed myself for being such a bitch to her when clearly all she was trying to do was help. I heard her heels as she made her way down the hallway, and then the front door slammed shut. "Sorry Jacky" 

"It's ok, carry on" I sighed

"I can't remember what I was talking about" I said even though it was a lie and I knew exactly why we were having this conversation. "You were telling me you aren't ok and that it's about me?" I shook my head "I miss you" the line went silent again for what felt like an eternity until Jacky finally spoke

"I miss you too" I smiled but then realized it wasn't the 'I miss you' I wanted to hear. It was the sort of I miss you as a friend and not the I miss being with you, I miss your hugs, your kisses, the way you made me smile, the way you knew everything about me. I didn't reply I let the silence consume us until finally Jacky spoke "I'm going to have to go, call me if you need me though" I sighed
