Turning Back..

Chapter 6

I didn't sleep that night, the sound of my alarm ringing indicated I had to get up, Jacky stirred next to me and I shook him awake "You need to look after Marie today, are you going to be ok?" he nodded as I went into my closet and grabbed the clothes I would be wearing today before heading to the bathroom to get ready. I emerged fully dressed and had managed to hide away the horrendous bags under my eyes with concealer. I walked downstairs and pulled my shoes and coat on before leaving for my car. 

I was early, I had Twenty minutes until I had to be at my first shoot. So I turned the engine off and pulled my phone from my bag seeing the multiple messages and missed calls I had. I ignored the calls and looked at the messages 

Kacie: Deven, I'm sorry I never said anything, please answer your phone? Ronnie told me Jacky is with you with Marie? xxxxx

I exited the message and read the one's from Jaime

Jaime: Deven, call any of us as soon as you get this we want to know you are ok? x

I groaned, why hadn't Vic bothered to contact me, to be honest I couldn't care less. I called Kacie's phone and she answered "Hello?" she said mid yawn

"Hi Kacie, so when were you planning on letting me know?" I asked her

"Oh Deven, you have to believe me I tried but the guys wouldn't let me, they wanted it to come from Vic" I sighed I could understand that I would have preferred to hear it from Vic than anyone else but a little sooner than a month. "Look why is Jacky there?" 

"Did Ronnie not tell you?" Kacie cleared her throat "Have you told Vic?" I asked paniked

"No, I think you should tell him, he's going insane though Deven" I sighed 

"Ok, look I've got to go work" I stated as I looked at the clock on my dashboard as it neared 9am "Tell Vic to call me this evening" Kacie sighed "And keep your gob shut" 

"I will" I sighed

"Oh and let Jaime know I'm fine" I bit my lip

"Ok..." I put the phone down and threw it into my handbag before getting out of my car and walking into the huge building. 

I got to the Seventh floor and walked into my office to see Katelyn one of the models I managed sat waiting for me "Hey how long have you been here?" I asked her as I set my things down on my desk "Not long, about ten minutes" I sighed "Where's the shoot today?"

"It's here, on the fourth floor" I stated as I peeled my jacket off "We will go down to makeup in a second" she nodded as I hung my coat up on the coat hanger and straightened my dress out. I grabbed everything I thought I would need and shoved them into my laptop bag. Katelyn followed me out of the room "So did you have a good weekend?" she asked me. I nodded and plastered a smile on my face "Yes thanks, how was yours?" she smiled 

"It was fine" we walked over to the lift and waited for it to arrive.

Down in make up I watched as the make up team got to work on Katelyn for her shoot. My work phone made a buzzing sound, it was clipped to my belt on my dress. I lifted it up and answered "Hello, Deven speaking"

"Deven, there's someone on the phone up here, they want to be put through to your office, it sounds urgent" I sighed

"Thanks, I'll be right up" I placed my phone back and turned to Katelyn "You'll be fine on your own for a few minutes won't you?" she nodded at me and I sped out of the room and up to my office. I unlocked the door and picked up the phone on the desk "Hello Deven speaking?" 

"Deven" my heartbeat stopped as I heard Vic's voice through the phone 

"Vic, you aren't meant to call me on my work phone" I announced angrily

"I know but you weren't picking up your mobile" I rolled my eyes "What's going on Dev, I need to know what you are keeping from me it's driving me insane" I sighed and sat down at my desk, I'd only been at work for a couple of hours and I was so tired due to the no sleep I had last night. "Well, Jacky and Charlotte broke up" 

"Ooo" Vic announced "That's too bad" 

"I know it sucks but he needs a friend right now so he's staying with me and Marie for a little bit" I announced I bit my lip waiting for him to blow up on the other end of the phone "WHAT! No he can't stay alone with you not when I'm not around Deven!" 

"Vic calm down, I want him there!" I stated without even thinking

"Deven, he's your ex, your first love, what am I meant to think?" I could feel the anger boiling up inside me. I could understand why he would be mad about Jacky staying so I don't know why I was getting so angry over it "Vic! You are on tour with that fucking skank that tried to ruin our relationship and almost did" Vic groaned

"Deven that was over two years ago! She's changed!" I groaned into the phone 

"How would you know Vic! What are you friends now?" There was a silence a long and antagonizing one "Oh so you are? How wonderful have fun Vic!" I slammed the phone back onto the stand and laid my head down on my desk allowing sleep to overcome me. 

I shot up from my position on the desk as my door swung open and crashed against the wall. "Deven! My office now!" I stared up at my boss and looked at the clock on my wall, it was 7pm. I'd been asleep for the whole day. oh my god, oh my god, oh my god what have I done!? I stood up and followed my boss to his office, sitting down in the leather chair opposite him "Why are you sleeping during work hours, in fact it's after your work hours" I sighed my heart was racing and I felt almost faint "I'm so, so sorry I didn't sleep last night and there's so much going on at home at the moment" I announced I was trying to explain but he cut me off "You've missed all of your shoots today, your interviews and a meeting you were supposed to go to this afternoon, we only noticed you were missing when we were all in the board room having our weekly meeting and you never turned up" I cursed under my breath. Why hadn't my PA come in and woken me up, she had my schedule with her she knew I had meetings and shoots today! I looked up at my boss tears threatening to spill over and I froze when the words left his mouth, the ones I knew were coming "I'm sorry Mrs Fuentes but you're fired" I bit down on my tongue to try and stop the tears from spilling over "I want your office cleared and your pass left at the front desk" I nodded "Leave" I got up and walked out of the office and over to the desk my PA was stood at she was collecting her things ready to leave "Hey! Claire!" she looked up at me "Why the hell didn't you wake me up?, you are meant to be my PA!" she didn't even say a word as she pulled her coat on and started to descend down the stairs. I slammed my fist on her desk before heading over to my office and pulling out some empty boxes from the cupboard, I started to place my belongings into them to take back home. I was gutted and the tears wouldn't stop spilling out from my eyes. 

I slid into the seat of my car and just sat there motionless for a few minutes before my phone started to ring in my bag I pulled it out and looked at the contact name, it was Jacky, I answered without hesitation "Hello?"

"Deven, Hey what time did you say you finished work?" I started to cry again I just couldn't hold the tears back "Hey Dev are you ok? What's happened?" I sniffled 

"oh Jacky, I just got fired" 

"Shit, Deven I'm so sorry how did it happen do you want me to come get you" I shook my head furiously even though I knew he couldn't see it "No Jacky, it's fine I'll be home in about Twenty minutes ok" 

"Ok Dev, be careful" I smiled and threw my phone back into my bag on the passenger seat before driving home.
