*KARA'S POV*

"You seem way too happy to be at work," Amity stated sipping on her coffee and leaning against the register counter.

"Go away would you? We have more customers," I stated motioning her away with my hand.

"Why are you so giddy though? I mean...it is your first day on the job, but even so. The joviality is practically bursting out of you."

I knew I couldn't lie my way out of this one. I had fallen asleep in Ace's room and when I woke up to go to work, he was already at the parking garage training, so I just went ahead and left.

I twisted the end of the chain attached to the angel pendant around my neck and smiled.

"Look at you! You're a giggly mess. Spill the tea," she said practically climbing on top of the counter.

I rolled my eyes and tried to look less amused while I abandoned my hiding place behind the register and went to take orders.

"Don't ignore me!" Amity yelled running after me.

"Hi, welcome to Garvey's. May I take your order?" I asked to a girl who didn't look much older than me.

"Yeah, can I have a peppermint mocha and a chocolate scone?" She said looking up from her phone.

"Absolutely! I'll be back with your order in a second," I said walking back behind the counter and placing it on the order tray before returning to the register and trying my best not to look up at a fuming Amity.

"I'll ask Ace then," she stated turning around.

"Wait! What makes you think he has anything to do with why I'm happy?"

"Your face."

I looked down feeling my face heat up and twiddling with the chain around my neck again.

"What is that?" She asked leaning over the counter.

"A necklace," I said as Amity gently plucked the pendant from my hand, holding up the small angel charm.

"An angel? Kara, this has Ace written all over it, what happened?"

"I'm on the job I'll tell you afterwards."

"No, you'll tell me now."

"I'm working now," I laughed.

"Who cares?"

"I just got this job. I scheduled everything with Vivian yesterday. I'm not getting fired on day one."

She rolled her eyes before surrendering.

"Fine, but you tell all after your shift. I'm staying till you perform."

I nodded as she went and sat down as I went back into the kitchen.

I was the new worker so naturally, I didn't really have friends here yet, and I wasn't entirely sure who worked here.

I started to clean some dishes while Jordan, a guy who I met on my first day here, took over the register.

I looked at the clock and noticed that I had five minutes until I had to sing, and then I could go back to the dorms.

I went to the back room and pulled out my guitar case, unzipping it and grabbing my guitar out before tuning it.

"About to go on?" A voice asked.

I turned around to see Jordan standing there with a smile on his face and a rag slung over his shoulder.

"Yeah," I said standing up with my guitar in my left hand and my right hand outstretched to shake his. "I'm-"

"Kara, the new girl. You seem pretty cool. I'm excited to hear you perform."
