*ACE'S POV*

"A witness? You've got to be kidding me," I muttered, mindlessly flipping through my history textbook.

"I didn't know when I could tell you. I mean I've been helping Kara with her abilities and everything which is a plus, but-"

"But knowing we had an experienced one may have been nice before we went throwing Kara into a world she barely understands."

"Understood. She knows a lot now."

"But she didn't back then," I stated as Owen twiddled his thumbs, sitting in my desk chair.

"I'm sorry, Ace," Owen mumbled.

I shook my head in defeat before tossing my history book into the floor. School wasn't nearly a priority anymore with the way my life was going. I can't live a normal life and the fact that I ever thought I could being what I am was foolish beyond me, and people who were still at least partially human like Seven and Kara and Danalrie, and even Amity had gotten thrown into this through family or destiny...it almost didn't seem fair.

"It's fine, Owen. Just would've been a nice bit of information to have."

He nodded and then got up and sat on the bed next to me.

"So, what's the game plan?" He asked.

I looked over at him and sighed before answering.

"I don't know, honestly. I don't know why I'm back here. I don't know why any of us are back here. I mean, you aren't enrolled at this school, but for the rest of us, which is pretty much everyone excluding you and the werewolves, I'm not sure why we bothered coming back. We'll just have to leave to fight again...there's no point."

"Then why don't you all just leave?"

I shrugged. None of us really had family. Kara did and I was happy for her, but at the same time I was almost envious that she had someone to go back to. Me? Seven? Cora? We didn't have anyone. I raised myself and most of the vampires were raised by Cloud if you could call it raising. He didn't seem like the type to write a parenting 101 novel.

"I wanted to maintain a regular profile."

"For them?"

"For me, Owen."

I exhaled as Owen scooted slightly further away from me and gently laid his hand on my shoulder.

"I get it. You wanted to come across in your mind as human as, well, humanly possible. I'm a half blooded witness with a little bit of vampire mixed in. I use to join random social gatherings just to try and fit in, but I knew what I was...my point is that I understand where you're coming from."

I nodded and looked at Owen who flashed me one of his encouraging smiles before removing his hand from my shoulder.

"I have way too many chick flick moments."

"Chick flick moments are necessary."

"Not necessarily."

Owen chuckled before standing up and stretching.

"You find a new place to train, Ace?"

"Not yet, but something tells me we don't have much time left. Cloud's getting fed up according to Fin, who isn't very reliable, but it's the best input we've gotten," I muttered. After Fin and Amity got to Owen's place during training, Fin had shared a little bit of input regarding Cloud's side with Amity and Amity had shared it with the rest of us. Amity had ultimately picked our side, but Fin was extremely resistant. We needed him alright, but it was a matter of wanting him that didn't get past customs.
