October 6th, 2015 / Tuesday

It's lunch time and as always I'm waiting for Gabbie at our usual table. The cafeteria is full of people, so it's extremely loud. I find it kind of obnoxious when people are being too loud on purpouse, not like Gabbie - she just can't controll it.

I put the headphones on my ears, desperately trying to escape the noise.

I think the main purpose in these students' lifes is to be noticed, which is extremely pathetic if you ask me. The lunchtime in the cafeteria had somehow always reminded me of a zoo. There are so many different types of "animals" in school.

The footbal team for example are acting like big, cocky lions on the outside, but I know that they are just like little mice on the inside. The cheerleaders are the colourful, exotic birds. But I like to call them "the Hen squad", it suits them better. The school's band members are like the monkeys - always loud and seeking attention, but they eat like pigs.

Do I have to give more examples or you already have gotten the picture?

I can't say that I enjoy standing aside, because being an audience isn't that much fun. But I have never actually wanted to be a part of any of these herds. I prefer to spend my free time with an interesting new book, watch a good movie or get lost in the music my headphones so politely provide.

A familiar smiling face appears in front of me, making me widen my eyes in surprise and lose the strings, holding my thoughts together a second ago. The person's mouth starts moving and I slowly take off the headphones.

"I'm sorry!" I say, pointing to the headphones. "Music... Ummm, I didn't hear you."

"I guess I have to repeat myself again like yesterday. I said, why are you sitting alone?" David chuckles and takes off his hat, putting it down on the table.

I can feel my mouth open a little then closing again.

Oh! My! God! He is talking to me. Again! On purpose!

He takes his camera out of his black backpack, placing it on the table and I notice a red light blinking.

Is he recording me? And why? Nevermind, I can do this. I just have to pull myself together, breathe and say something. Anything!

"Ummm, I'm... I'm waiting for my friend, sh... she must be here in a bit." Well, that was sort of a good answer, but maybe the next time I will try not to stutter so much.

"Oh, ok. I think that yesterday I didn't catch your name. Can you..."

"Liza." Did I just interrupted him? Oh well, at least I didn't stutter this time.

He smiles, leaning forward and reaching his right hand to me. As I take it, a strange tickling feeling hits my stomach.

"It's nice to officially meet you, Liza." He says, emphasizing my name. "What are you listening to?" He points to my headphones with his free hand, but still holding my right hand.

"Right now? Some old stuff my dad reccomended." I look down at our hands and then back in his eyes. "I guess now it's my turn to repeat myself again like yesterday, but are you going to give me my hand back?"

It's not that I don't enjoy the feeling his warm hand gives me, but we just met and it is making me nervous. He blushes a little, but keeps smiling.

Oh, yes! I'm on fire this week!!! Two jokes for two days in a row!!! I'm better at this than I thought.

I bite my lower lip, feeling my cheeks getting warmer as he leans even closer to me. The fact that I can see my reflection in his eyes makes my heart beat so loud and rapid that I'm afraid he might hear it.
