After a long and disturbingly boring Math class, I put my textbooks in my locker. As I close it I'm surprised to find a smiling Gabbie standing behind the door. Not creepy at all!
"Are you ready to go shopping?" She sqeals, making me roll my eyes at her over excitement.
Am I the only one who doesn't understand how and most importantly why girls find fun or even slight entertainment in walking in a closed space for endless amount of hours and losing their minds over some insignificant things like colourful pieces of fabric that they maybe won't even wear more than three times.
Apparently there is something seriously wrong with my brain, because I can see it only like some kind of medieval wicked torture.
"Ok, let's get it over with!" I force a slightly crooked smile on my face, knowing I'll make my best friend happy for letting her help me. Ah, the daily sacrifices I have to make!
As we are walking through the parking lot to my car, talking about random stuff, she suddenly stops. I make a few steps further before I turn around and go back to her.
"What is wrong, Gabbie? Did you forget something?" I stare at her frozen face, her mouth formed an "O" shape. "Seriously, you're scaring me right now! What's going on?"
"Do you see what I see?" She finally speaks, her voice coming out almost like a whisper and sounding a little shaky. "Look." She lifts her right hand, her finger pointing straight to where my car is parked.
My gaze slowly trace the invisible line her finger is making before landing on an unusual sight.
"What the..." I exclaim, raising my eyebrows in frustration.
Someone is sitting very comfortablly on the hood of my car, legs crossed, headphones on, just chillin. I immediately recognize the figure. There's only one person I know who wears black clothes all the time, has a hair so shaggy that even a hat can't supress it and always has his camera beside him.
"Oh my God!" I mutter under my nose, already feeling the burning blush on my cheeks.
"Stop drooling and just give me the keys. I'll wait in the car." I hear Gabbie's chuckle beside me and turn my attention to her grinning face.
"I.. I... I don't..."
"Give. Me. The. Keys." She reapeats slowly as if I'm a four-year-old and can't understand her fast talking.
I give her the best eye roll I have before putting my keys on the palm of her hand. I watch her every move as she walks towards my car, unlocks it then getts in the passenger seat. Although she makes sure the door closes loudly enough, the person still doesn't move a muscle. It takes me a brief second to force my feet to move, but when I do I'm pleasantly suprised by the sudden fluttering inside my chest.
"Hey!" I say, walking closer to David.
He turns his head, just smiling at me widely instead of answering my question. As he jumps on the ground his T-shirt lifts a little, revealing a perfect six-pack for a milisecond. Suddenly I'm having trouble breathing and it takes me a second to collect my thoughts.
Girl, get your mind out of the gutter!
"Do y... you need a... ummm... ride?" I inwardly kick myself for my stupid stuttering.
He slowly starts walking towards me shaking his head in reply, now with a huge grin on his face. His dark eyes have some kind of fiery gleam that makes my skin prickle. He's camera is pointing in my direction, but I just decide to ignore the strangeness that brings in the situation.
"Then why are you sitting on top of my car?" I fake a frown and cross my arms under my chest, tilting slightly my head to the side.
It's my version of trying to look intimidating. And apparently it's the wrong one, because it's not working at all.
"I'm just waiting for Zane and Heath." He points to the big red pick-up truck parked next to my car, his gaze not leaving my face. "Or may be for someone else." His grin gets so big that now even his eyes are smiling and I'm waiting for it ro rip his adorable face in half.
He makes a couple of steps closer to me, the intoxicating scent of colonge and cinnamon dancing around him before finally invading all my senses. It's subtle and sweet, warm and manly.
And I love it!
I try really hard to not blush again, but my cheeks aren't listening to me. I mentally gasp when that same tickling in my stomach from yesterday comes again, but now it's at least a hundred times stronger.
"Where are you two going?" David asks and waves to Gabbie.
She quickly waves back at him then pretends to look at something on her phone and not at us. I don't know who exactly is she trying to fool, because just in a milisecond she's going to stare at us again. And on top of all, she's going to put me through hell later in order to find out what this conversation was about. What he said, what I said, how he looked at me, how his lips were moving, how badly I wanted to...
"Liza?" His voice snaps me out of the haze the day-dream put me into.
"Hm..." I make a huge mistake when I move my eyes from his lips to his eyes. Dang it! What's happening to me? He asked me a question, I just have to remember what it was. "Oh, right. First we're going to do some shopping and then a movie at the mall. Why are you constantly filming me?" I make a sad attempt to change the subject and to clear my mind.
The fact that he's so close to me is doing something to my brain, blurring it and slowly erasing any thoughts. I've never felt this way before. It's weird and intimidating, but somehow in a good way.
"Sounds fun. The movie part, not the shopping." He ignores my question again.
Just when I open my mouth to ask him one more time, his friends appear out of nowhere and I'm forced to close it.
"David, let's go! We have a lot of work to do. Oh, hi, Liza!" Alex yells, smiling and I wave back at him.
Wait, now Alex know my name too? Well, that's actually very understandable, mostly because we're all going to the same school and he's friend with David. But, still.
"Maybe, I'll see you later." David smugly says, his eyes glowing devilishly before he turns around to get into Heath's truck.
I can't help but notice that at this very moment everybody are looking at me. I've never liked being the center of attention and I always made sure to avoid it. And those looks his friends gave me are making me think that I won't get away with this so easily. I sigh and open my car door, but when I sit behind the wheel I can physically feel Gabbie's eyes drilling a hole into my head. I close my eyes, taking a deep breath and counting to three before...
"Tell!" She impatiently commands.
Dang it, not this again!!!
