As the final exams are now approaching faster than Voldemort could say "Avada Kedavra" and I have only school on my mind, lately I actually started enjoying the half an hour bus drives to the cafe every weekend. Apparently, that is the only free time I have entirely for myself, whether I spend it reading a book or listening to music, trying to escape my own thoughts. And because today is a beautiful, sunny day I left the book at home and decided to put my headphones on and stare at strangers through the windows. Mistake number one!
Since it's a Sunday morning there are much less cars on the road and people on the streets than usual, so that fact makes my gaping boring and almost without avail. The keyword here being "almost". As I'm totally consumed by the loud music with not a single thought, running through my mind, the bus stops at a traffic light along with a few cars beside it. My eyes roam around and unknowingly land on one particular car beside the bus. A car that I can recognize even if I'm blindfolded and it drives past me with the speed of light. His car. The bus is higher than the car and I can't see his face, but I can see everything else inside. My eyes widen and I slightly slide my body down the seat when I realize that he's not alone. She is sitting in the passenger seat with her back slightly turned towards the window, her long legs crossed in a sad attempt to hide how short her skirt is. Thank god, I can't see her face too, because by the way she's playing with her devilishly red hair, I'm pretty sure that she's shamelessly flirting with him. By the things he told me about her I thought that he hated everything about her and despite her affection towards him, he never even liked her company.
But I thought wrong, because apparentlyhe changed his mind and maybe when people change, they don't always do it in a good way. Clearly he's moved on already and I guess that's a good thing, but I've never actually thought he would go for a girl like her. Maybe he was searching for something else that's more vibrant and sexy, something that I couldn't give to him. My train of thoughts is interrupted when she moves a little and just when I thought that it can't get any worse, she suddenly turns in my direction.
She freaking turns around and looks at me! To say that I prefer to be invisible in this very moment would be a huge understatement. I prefer to play hide and seek with the Devil himself rather than being here. Her dark blue eyes meet mine just for a second, but it's enough for me to feel like a tiny little ant that's about to be crushed underneath the feet of an angry toddler. The traffic light saves me from her piercing gaze and turns green. The last thing I see before their car drives away is her victorious smirk as she reaches for his hand. I manage to advert my eyes before my entire body freezes as I realize that I've completely lost him and she finally got what she wanted in the first place. She won! Until now at least I had hope that some day, somehow I'll be able to gather the courage to fight for him, to bring him back, but now it's gone. And I'm left with nothing but a broken heart.
The rest of the ride is a total blur and I can't remember how exactly I got to the cafe. I only remember how I opened the door and collapsed on the first chair I saw. Mr. and Mrs. J came running to me, asking what's wrong, but I just couldn't reply adequately. After a few minutes and two glasses of water I finally managed to stand up.
"Honey, you don't look very well. Why don't you take the day off? There aren't many customers today, we'll be all right." Mrs. J says with a worried expression on her face, gently stroking my cheek.
"No, no, I'm fine!" I shake my head and take a deep breath before I put the apron over my head. "I haven't had breakfast and I felt a little dizzy on the ride here. But I'm ok now. Don't worry!" I give her a little fake smile. If I go home now I'm afraid that I'll never leave it again and I can't let that happen to me one more time.
