Dear Diary
It wasn't Biscuit that woke me up today. Instead, it was the rapid vibrations of my phone on the wooden side table. They seemed much louder and constant than they normally did. I picked up the phone from the table and unlocked it to see what the stream of updates was about. Suffice to say, I was rather surprised at it's content.
Prey and Intruder had finally done it. They had finally broken up. Months of their committed relationship, and it was finally over. I was overwhelmed with joy. At last, I had a free shot at Prey. He was definitely going to be mine now.
I got out of bed with a huge smile on my face. As if Biscuit knew how happy I had just become, he raced into the room and jumped onto my bed, trying to run in small circles. He failed, tripping over the sheets. He was so cute and adorable, practically begging for me to pet him. I complied.
As was standard, my mother drove me to the work experience facility via Bear's house, so that we could pick her up. She got into the back with me. I tried to mouth "They broke up" to her while we were in the car, but she did not really seem to understand me. The two of us spent most of the car trip playing charades.
When we were finally out of earshot of my mother, I excitedly told Bear my news.
"THEY BROKE UP! THEY BROKE UP!"
Hers eyes widened.
"Really! How!? When!? Why!?" The questions flooded out of her mouth.
I calmed down a little before, before starting to walk with her to the building that we were supposed to go to.
"I read the messages this morning, sometime last night after she got home she ended it. She said something about not getting over the kiss from putt putt!"
Bear took all of this information in stride.
"But, didn't they get over that?"
"I thought they did, but I guess she was still holding it against him."
"That works perfectly for you" Bear replied, as she reached the door. I opened it for her, and walked in after she did.
We brought our voices down to a whisper, as we walked to our desks, so as to avoid disturbing anyone. Not that anybody else was here.
"I know right." We sat down at the desk that had been assigned to us.
Just as I was about to say something further, our tour guide from the first day came up to our desk.
"Hey, can you go check out that bunker again? There were reports of strange noises coming from there." He leaned in to us and whispered, "And just between you and me, maybe take a while doing it, they aren't going to give me any good work for you to do, might as well enjoy yourselves a little bit."
Bear and I were surprised at this suggestion, but were glad that we were not the only people who were finding the work unsatisfying. I was also glad to be 'rewarded' for my work here.
We slowly walked to the bunker, enjoying the soft wind and the sounds of the fountains.
The bunker continued to stand in stark contrast to everything else that was in the grounds, a giant eye-sore in what otherwise looked to be a scientific paradise.
We continued to talk about Prey's new relationship status.
"Now that he is single, what will you do?" Bear asked.
"I'm not too sure" I replied "I've spent so much time trying to make him like this that I never really thought about what I would do when it did happen."
"That is interesting" Bear said. "As I have been thinking of ways to make him yours"
"Really?" I asked, both surprised and touched.
We had reached the bunker. Once again I opened the door for her, walking in after she did.
"Yeah, and I was thinking that...what's that smell?" she stopped mid sentence. I was about to ask "What smell?", but it hit me very suddenly, as if I had been hit by a wall of stench.
Bear and I covered our noses as fast as we could.
"It smelt like...something rancid." she said.
I agreed with her.
"A little like someone's got some off meat". She nodded.
We walked steadily towards the main door which was between us and the second room. It was closed. When the two of us reached it, I threw the door open with one arm, the other still over my face.
Inside was Intruder, chained to a large, black, leather chair. There was blood everywhere. She left arm looked to be almost severed from her body. I ran up to her, taking a better look at her face. She was in terrible condition. She was missing most of her teeth, and her nose appeared to be broken.
"Who did this?" I asked, mortified. I felt like I was going to vomit.
"Get out!" she screamed, just before I heard a devastatingly loud crack coming from behind me.
Just as I turned around to see what it was, Bear let out an ear-splitting scream, and I saw her drop to the flow, clutching her side. Next to her was a large human male holding a baseball bat. He looked to be about my age, and passed on his position, how he was holding the bat, the blood on the bat and the blood which was coming from Bear onto the floor, I assumed him to be the reason for her scream.
He ran towards me as fast as he could, jumping on me, pushing me to the floor before I could get out of the way. A second crack rang out across the room as my head hit the floor. Everything went blurry as I tried to keep whoever it was from smothering me.
Holding me down with one hand, he retrieved a cloth from his other pocket, bringing it to bear on my face. Using both hands, I desperately tried to keep it away from my face.
Unfortunately he was far too strong, and it soon pressed full against my face. The awful smell was gone, replaced by some extremely harsh chemicals. What little strength I had left failed me completely.
The last thing I remembered before everything went black was Bear moaning weakly in pain, and whoever it was that had assaulted Intruder, Bear and I saying something along the lines of
"One was good, three is even better."
