It was a Monday morning and I had to wake up for work. The summer made it easier for me to wake up. I boiled some water for my bath like I do everyday. Our geyser wasn't working and I have been trying to save up for a new one but every time I do, something comes up. Grandmama needs to go to the clinic or the bills are due or she needs new slippers. So I told myself I would just boil my water everyday until I can get my geyser fixed.
While I was waiting for the water - I fixed grandmama a hot bowl of porridge. I went into her room, opened her curtains and kissed her forehead.
"Good morning grandmama. How did you sleep?" I whispered.
I saw her eyes open "Gwen, is that you? Oh my baby I slept well."
"I have to go to work grandmama I don't want to be late. I fixed you a hot bowl of cereal. I will come back at lunch time to give you a bath and make you some mashed potatoes."
"Alright baby." She whispered as she closed her eyes.
"Is there anything else you need?"
"No."
"Okay grandmama."My water was ready, I poured it into the bath and turned the cold tap on to make the water luke warm. I took a bath and got myself ready for work. I went to pick a banana from our banana tree as breakfast. I made sure the porridge was on the table waiting for grandmama. She could walk, yes, but it was slow and she couldn't do it for very long.

I was walking down the dusty gravel road and my black shoes were being filled with dust. "Ah dammit. I won't make it to work looking all neat." I said to myself.
Just as I was about to reach the bus stop a man in a van slowed down his driving and opened his window."How about I give you a ride? You will wait long on the bus."
"No, thanks- the bus always comes down this way. I've been on it enough times to know this." I said in a cheeky tone.
"Well you look exhausted and those shoes tell me a lot about your walk."
"What do they tell you?" I was getting annoyed.
"That you walked quite a distance to get here."
" Yes, I did and so? Why does that bother you?"Just as he was about to reply, the bus arrived, stopping just behind him.
"Here's my bus. I have to go." I said and walked away into the bus.
That was done and dusted never to happen again. Or was it?
