Part 23-The engagement

I was in John's office busy with work related things. I had decided to ignore everything that has happened between me and John the past few days.

Chantel came running in.
"Sir, you have an urgent visitor down to see you. I couldn't call you for it. You have to come down."
"Oh dear. Okay I am coming down in a sec."
I didn't dare ask. I wasn't interested. 

"I'll be back." John said.

Almost 45 minutes later, he came back up. He looked different. Rather offish, if you ask me.

"What's wrong. You look like you've seen a ghost."
"Gwen, you have to come down with me. Unexpected meeting and I need you take minutes."
"Oh okay, let me just get my MacBook and everything. Am I dressed okay?"
"Yeah." He sighed.

I went to my office and took all the things I need for the meeting. I walked down to the boardroom. I opened the door and to my surprise everybody was already seated as if I was extremely late.

But it wasn't new faces. It was all the employees. Chantel, John, even Charlotte and the rest.

"Sorry I'm late."
I took a seat and the meeting wasn't starting. Everybody was staring at the door and I was so confused.
"Sorry, just to confirm. There is a meeting in this boardroom right?"
"Oh yes." Chantel said.
"Thanks, Chantel."

The door opened and Bandz walked in. I was so confused. He had dropped me off in the morning so what could it be this time? I wanted to stand up and tell him this isn't the time to make appearances but had to look professional.

"Excuse me ladies and gentlemen may I just ---"
"No." Bandz said and smile.
"Excuse me?"
"I said no. Sit down."

I pulled my face.

"Gwen. We have been through it all. I cant even count how much we've been through. I've loved you from the moment I laid eyes on you. I just didn't know it was love until I grew older. I can't watch you walk around this town like you don't have a man anymore. They need to know there is someone crazy about you in this life. I also would be happier knowing that you are officially mine. So Gwendolyn Palmer. Infront of all your colleagues and friends who love you. Will you marry me,baby?"

My heart stopped and my butterflies started rumbling inside. I leaped for joy

"Oooh my baby!!! Baby!!! Yes yes yes!! I love you so much, I will be your fiancé first then your wife. I will be the happiest woman on this earth!"
"It's a yes,baby?"
"It's a yes my darling."

He slipped the ring onto my finger and I hopped into his arms and we kissed. I could hear everybody in the boardroom cheering for us. It was the happiest day of my life.

After Bandz's proposal it was back to normal. John couldn't give me the afternoon off to celebrate and start planning my wedding. I wasn't expecting him to; there was too much work.

It was almost time for lunch.
"John, I am going out during lunch break. Should I grab anything for you on the way?"
"No."
"Okay."

He was really off. This wasn't the John I knew. Had I done something wrong to him?

"And be back on time. Otherwise I will give you a written warning. Out here turning my company into a love game show."
"I'm sorry. I understand." my heart broke.
"Now if you'll excuse me,sir." I continued.
