Weeks had gone by and we were busy preparing for my wedding. It was only 2 days left before the big day and I couldn't wait.
I woke up feeling like I wanted to go and see my hometown before I get married. To see where it all started and to say goodbye to everybody. So I wore my old clothes and hopped into my car.
I drove downtown and saw the road I used to walk when I worked on the farm. I laughed with tears in my eyes at the memories. I saw the farm owned by Eva. Wow, it feels like it was just yesterday when I was singing and dancing here with Linda. The shops where Bandz and I would go for suckers and to play arcade games. The bush where we'd steal a quick kiss. Church, school, every single place I was involved in. Finally, the house. I had put the board up advertising it. I stopped and switched off the car. I hopped out and walked right infront of the gates.
My whole life was here. This is where I was happy with my grandmama. This is where Bandz and I would have had our small wedding. The memories cut me so deep but there was no use crying anymore. I dried my tears and went back to my car.
On my way I stopped at the old age home where grandmama is. I signed in the visiting sheet at the door and I went to her room. I walked in with a teddy and flowers in my hand. She looked great actually. The friendships she had formed were really good for her.
"Grandmama?"
She looked up at me and continued knitting.
"I will leave if you want me to but I just want to leave the teddy and flowers I brought for you." I put them down and turned around.
"Come back." she said.
I turned back and slowly moved to her.
She gave me a nod to show me I could sit.
"Grandmama I miss you."
"I miss you too, Gwen. How is the married life?" she continued knitting.
"Uhm...I'm not married yet. It's in 2 days...another reason why I'm here."
"You want me there?"
"Please grandmama. I know you hate him but I love him."
I found it difficult to communicate with her because she wasn't making eye contact and I felt bad for what I did to her.
"Gwen..." she sighed.
"Mama?"
"I always loved Bandz for you. I always saw him as my son. He was close to my heart and he took care of you. He took care of your heart and spirit, baby. Sadly, God didn't want it to work out that way and I won't question Him. So if this is your destiny, I will come to your wedding."
"Really grandmama?"
"Aha." she smiled.
"Well that's great! I can take you with me even today! So you can get to know my in laws and friends." I said joyfully.I packed for grandmama and got her ready to leave with me.
She didn't need whe wheel chair anymore. She had become so great looking and strong.
"Wow, look at this massive truck."
"It's a Mercedes, grandmama." I chuckled.
"It's awfully large. I don't know how I will get in there."
"Relax,we'll help you."So the people who worked at the old age helped grandmama get into my car and off we went.
It seems like everything was coming together.
