"Oh my goodness. Ncaaaw John." I admired the dress on my bed.
It was all the way from India. It was a red silky high-low v neck dress which had diamonds on the v. It had matching jewellery with it.

I freshened up and got ready. I tied my curly hair into a bun and placed beads in the bun. I wore black Louis Vuitton high heels. At last I was ready to go out and meet everyone.

As I went downstairs everybody applauded me.  Anne introduced me.

"There she is everybody. My future daughter in law." she smiled.

I didn't know a single person here. Only my sisters and Anne. Anne caught me off guard when she asked me to give a welcoming and thank you speech.

I stood in the middle of the crowd and she tapped her glass with a spoon.

"Uhm...good evening everybody. It's good to have you all here. Welcome to my engagement party.  We will be celebrating my union with the most amazing bachelor in the city, John-Henry Smith. Soon I will be taking his surname and I will be putting it to good use. So enjoy yourselves. Drinks on us. Thank you."

Everybody cheered and the classic music played on.

"Well done, sis." said Tiffany.
"Urgh. It was a disaster."
"No it was great. Did you see the paparazzi? All those News channels? I have to get myself out there."
"Go ham." I said sarcastically.

I put my glass down and turned the opposite direction. To my surprise , Mr and Mrs Smith ,my former employers, were there! I don't even know why that came as a surprise! That's how I got the job in the first place. Was I supposed to go and greet them? Or would they still act fresh with me? I took one my sip and put my glass down. I walked up to them.

"Mr and Mrs. Smith." I smiled.
"Darling! Gwendolyn! We saw you up there." Mrs. Smith said.
"Thanks. I try."
"How does it feel being part of the big fish?" Asked Mr. Smith.
"Oh it feels lovely. Wonderful people." I replied with a smile:
"You will see, we are easy to get along with. Not arrogant as people always make us to be." said Mrs. Smith.
"Yeah. Uhm...Mrs. Smith?"
"No, call me Eva dear."
"Eva...where's Linda?"
"Oh, Linda? She's still with us. She met a nice young man. Hasn't introduced him to us yet but she seems happy. "
"Oh that's nice. Suppose she knows about my engagement?"
"She knows. We invited her but I'm not sure why she didn't turn up."
"I should check up on her."

Before we could finish the conversation Anne called me out in the crowd.

"Eva, I will see you. Mother in law is looking for me."
"Sure girl. You're a Smith now. Kick ass!"

I went up to her and she made an announcement.

"Attention attention ladies and gentlemen. You may all have wondered why I called Gwendolyn here. Well Gwen, dear. John wanted me to do this in public. Take this box and walk outside to the door with it."
She handed me a small box wrapped with red paper.

I wasn't too sure what was going on but I followed her instruction.

I went to the door, opened the door and everybody yelled "surprise!"

I couldn't believe my eyes. Outside was a brand new Mercedes Benz G-class in black!

"Oh my goodness!" I squealed!
And to add to the surprise, John Henry walked up to me. He had just returned from his meeting.

"Hey baby. I missed you."
"Oh, Henry you've made me the happiest girl on earth!" I cried.

That was a night to remember. So beautiful and so elegant.
