I was home making dinner. Grandmama and Bandz were in the living room watching TV.
Bandz walked into the kitchen to grab some water.
"Bandz?" I asked.
"Yes?"
"Do you ever consider marrying me?"
He dropped everything he was doing.
"Where does this come from?"
"I don't know...nowhere...we've been together so long and I'm starting to wonder where we're headed."
"Baby. Once we get ourselves sorted. I will do all the right things."
"All the right things? Oh."
He kissed my cheek and went back to the living room.
I stared out the window while chopping carrots. Does this man love me? Or will I just always be that woman who's there?
Dinner was ready and I made sure we had enough to eat. I later washed the dishes and cleaned the kitchen. Bandz walked in with a plastic that had trousers in.
"Found this in our room. I don't remember giving you pants to mend"
"Oh yes uhm..." I swallowed my saliva.
"Yes???"
"Those are Mr. Smith's. I had promised to fix them for him."
"He probably has a wife at home who can fix his for him. Not you."
"I'm sorry. I was just being polite."
"Just being polite...wow." He turned and walked to our room.
I was getting ready for bed when my cellphone vibrated. I wondered who it could be because only John knew this number. It was a work phone after all.
I looked at the screen and Mr. Smith lit up. I had hoped Bandz couldn't hear the vibration.
"Is it that man of yours?"
"Excuse me?"
"I know he bought you that phone."
"For work. No it's not him."
"Answer it then."
I took it,walked out of the room and answered.
"Gwen, it's me."
"Yes?"
"I can't stop thinking about you. Your skin,everything. Please come to the office tomorrow."
"I will."
I heard Bandz's footsteps and I changed my tone
"Linda it was lovely. Thanks a lot, bye."
I hung up.
"You coming to bed?" Bandz asked.
"It was Linda. Busy busy." I was jumpy and he could see it.
We went to bed and I could feel Bandz's eyes shoot through the back of my head. Was this the end of my beautiful relationship? It can't be. I love this man.
