Reyen's PoV

Ever since I had confronted Jeremy after Mia's statement, I had never seen him again. It was already Christmas holiday as the festivities drew near. It was a joke that I hadn't laid my eyes on Jeremy despite being neighbours, but even so when I had gone and knocked on the door no one had answered. I wasn't expecting his father to do it but Jeremy always answered, always.

Even if Mia had told me there was no sight of a demon nearby my worries hadn't subside. I knew Jeremy well – too well for his own good – and his change in behavior plus what Mia had told, well, let's say it's pretty easy to sum up one plus one.

Annoyed I got up from the bed and sad at my desk as I flipped through the pages of the book Silver had given me. I wasn't really paying attention to what was written, just trying to take my mind away from the thoughts about Jeremy, however my attention was soon drawn towards a peculiarity in one of the book's pages. This one particular page was in fact thicker than the others and upon closer inspection I realized it was in fact two pages attached to each other. Carefully I tried to split them apart but when that mission turned to be impossible, I decided to grab the box cutter. Slowly as not to miss the target and cut the book, I placed it on the superior corner of the page and in a vertical swing, I separated the two pages apart.

I had already read the whole book and there hadn't been anything that worrisome, just normal things – as normal as being a guardian could be – that wouldn't put Mia's life in dangerous just by having become a guardian, of course the demons part wasn0t something the book has predicted, however what I didn't know was that in those two pages I was going to be proven wrong and realizing I needed to digest the information I headed out.

Mia's PoV

Christmas was drawing near and I had followed Judy's idea and bought something to give Heart. I didn't know if he would like it but I guess there was no reason not to give him the present. I placed the package in my purse and decided to go home as I no longer had any business in town.

On my way I dropped by the park as I always did when I had the time and came across a sad looking Reyen sulking on a bench.

"What's wrong?" sitting next to him I asked which took him by surprise.

He probably hadn't noticed me approaching.

"Mia? I wasn't expecting you!" he admitted confirming my suspicious and then let out a sigh. "Everything seems it's going in the wrong direction, and Jeremy, I'm really worried about him." answering my question he let out and I could see the sadness in his eyes. "I haven't seen him for so long and I know your suspicions are correct yet, there's nothing I can do to help him, to help my best friend. I've tried talking to him so many times but he doesn't listen, this is all so nerve wracking." lowering his head and placing his forehead on his clenches fists Reyen poured out his frustration.

"Reyen." I called placing my hand on his shoulder. "Have faith, everything is going to turn out just fine. I'll definitely–" I paused shaking my head. "We will definitely save him, don't give up hope!" trying my best to comfort Reyen, I smiled.

In that moment he hugged me tightly as he whispered a thank you in my ear and I hugged him back with a smile, happy that I had been able to pull his mood back up. As Reyen and I broke apart a strange feeling overcame me and I got up from the bench in a flash interrupting whatever Reyen was about to say. The strange feeling that arose in me, I knew it well, it only meant things were going to turn bad.

"Reyen, you better go." I advised not wanting to see him get hurt.

"Ah no! That's not going to happen." I heard him saying before the silhouette of a person started to appear in the distance.
