Alex's POV
I stood there at my front door with Joey, not really knowing what to say or do. I prayed to God that he wouldn't try to kiss me, because I honestly wasn't ready for that.
"Can I come in?" He asked suddenly.
I nodded. "Sure."
"I thought we could talk a little bit about what's going on. I know that you need someone right now because of everything going on, Alisha being gone, and Benji isn't necessarily helping the situation." He said cautiously walking into the kitchen. "Mind if I grab a beer?"
I followed him and sat on top of the counter. "Go ahead."
He grabbed one and sat at the table. "So? What's on your mind?" He asked.
I sighed. "Where do I start?" I knew he wanted to know what exactly had happened with Alisha, he was in the dark about the whole situation, no one really wanted to talk about it, it hurt too much.
"I don't know what to tell you, there really is no story. It was a car accident. She was going to the store to pick up some last minute things for dinner, we were all at her house, Joel practically begged her to let him go, but she wouldn't budge. 30 minutes after she left we got the call." I spoke softly trying not to let the tears fall.
"How's Jo?" He asked.
I calmed down a bit before answering him. "He's getting better. He finally took Robin home, she was staying with Matt and Val until he was capable of caring for her again."
He nodded understandingly, just as I was about to ask him about his life and how he was doing my house phone rang.
Joey reached up behind him and grabbed it. "Speak of the devil, it's Joel."
I hopped off the counter and he handed me the phone.
Joey's POV
She answered the phone quickly, suddenly her face changed to worry and she mumbled a few words before hanging up the phone and reaching for her purse and car keys.
"I have to go." I didn't even have time to say anything before she rushed out the door.
I didn't have a key or anything to lock up her place so I stayed. I knew that the only person that could make her rush out like that, no questions asked, was Benji and as much as I hated it, there was nothing that could be done, her heart belonged to him now.
Alex's POV
The hour long drive to Huntington seemed longer than normal. The distance gave me so many chances to just turn around and go home. I couldn't understand why I always did this, why I let him completely control my life. I finally pulled up to our place and grabbed my key, but I couldn't bring myself to use it, this just didn't feel like my home anymore.
When I finally got the nerve to ring the doorbell, it only took him a few seconds to answer.
"Hey." Was all I could manage to say.
He looked completely surprised. "What are you doing here?"
I sighed and said something that I would probably regret later. "Joel called. You need me and I'm here. We made that promise a long time ago, remember?"
He smiled and pushed the door open wider, gesturing for me to come inside.
I looked around and realized that this was probably the first time he had been back here since we had been here together.
Benji's POV
"I just got here, otherwise I would've cleaned up a bit."
"No, it's alright. You don't have to do that. So what's going on? You and Eliza fighting?" She asked while walking over to the couch, she pushed the movies around and smiled, it was a small smile that would've surpassed anyone that didn't know Alex.
