Hope
"Hey! I was worried 'bout you! Why weren't you in class this morning?" Miko stood, hands on her hips. Sighing, I rubbed my tired eyes. A small smile formed on my face.
She seemed so protective of her friends. Minutes earlier, I'd heard her threatening a bully who was picking on some younger kid.
Randy? Ronald? Rafael? No... I think his name was Raf. Miko tilted her head to one side. "Well? Is there going to be an explanation or another 'I slept in' excuse that means crap?" she asked.
Technically, I did sleep in. Mostly because my head was slammed into a wall and I passed out for a long period of time... all the way until fifth hour at school to be precise... but sleeping in nonetheless.
"I had something to do." I opened my locker and she stood, waiting for me to grab my science books before walking with me down the hallway.
A few kids purposely bumped into me, and Miko growled at them in response. I simply shook my head at her, and she muttered angrily in their direction.
After a few minutes of silence- well, mostly my silence- Miko continued to babble and talk about her latest detention slip, claiming it was not her fault that the food fight at lunch started. She was just "sharing" her mashed potatoes with another girls' face.
"Hey!"
I jumped before turning my full attention back to Miko. "Y-yes?"
She raised an eyebrow. "You listening to anything I have to say?" A teasing smile was on her face. I shrugged, and she sighed.
"As I was saying, before being so rudely ignored," she winked, "we should go shopping."
She began eyeballing my wrinkled clothes. I raised an eyebrow, trying not to let surprise surface onto my features.
I guess she noticed, because she asked, "What?" I gave a small shrug.
"I just didn't think you were the... shopping type." Miko looked like a full-blown rock and roll chick. Not the kind to shop for barbie doll clothes like I would if I had any money...
"I'm still a girl. I know style. This is my style," she said, waving a hand at herself, "And you..." she pondered for a second. "Your style is probably lacy things, light colors. Comfy, yet elegant."
"You're good..." I muttered under my breath. Miko chuckled.
"I know. So how about we go shopping after school? My friend can pick me up."
"Which one?" I couldn't help but ask. The curiosity had been eating at me all day. "Jack dropped you off, and then I saw that other guy in the green car." Miko twirled a strand of her hair and nodded.
"Both are good friends. Bulk, that's his nickname for being so broad- he's my best friend. He normally picks me up and drops me off at school. Jack just did that one morning 'cause Bulk was busy with something."
I nodded. Made enough sense. But about this shopping trip, I just couldn't go.
I opened my mouth, starting to decline the offer when the bell rang. Miko waved at me with an evil grin.
