Alex exhaled strongly. He had Anna in his lap, but he was still a tad frustrated with what he had heard George- no- Mr. Washington- no- his dad say. It was distressing to say the least. Alex looked down at Anna. "You don't get worried or anxious about anything, do you?" Alex asked his sister.
"Uhah!" Anna wiggled in his arms.
"Don't worry sis, you don't have to answer that. It was rhetorical. Reh- tour- i -cal." Alex sounded out the word to his little sister, hoping she would get it.
She didn't. "Blubli!"
Alex took in a sharp breath and let it out slowly."I'm distressed."
He stared into Anna's bright blue eyes. "But you don't know what that means, you don't have a care in the world Anna." He bit his lip and sighed. "I'm envious of you, you don't have to care what your dad thinks of you. You don't have to care whether or not he'll give you back up for adoption. He would never, your bonded to him in a way that I'm not bonded to anyone." Tears stung his skin as the slid down his cheeks in a path down to his chin. "Nobody out there cares about me."
"Jhuywa!" Anna reached her hand up and brushed his chin with her tiny hand.
"Well sis, it means that- I guess it's just you and me against the world." Alex kissed her head lovingly, as his tears dripped onto his shirt, leaving tiny wet splotches. "You don't mind that, do you?"Anna shook her head, as if she understood the question.
"I'm glad." Alex chuckled.
"I mind." A voice said from the door frame.
Alex lifted his head to see who is was. "Laf, how long have you been standing there?"
"I mind if it's just the two of you." Laf paused for a moment. "I'm sure mom and dad mind, they love you. As much as Anna or the cats, or anyone." He nodded. "As much as they love me. They adore you, and every little thing that you do. They truly care about you." He placed a hand on his big brother's shoulder lovingly. "And yea, sure. They might tell Anna, they might express it to Anna more often. But that's only because she's an isty bitsy-.""Spider?" Alex offered a piece of knowledge and almost instantly got shot down by his younger brother.
"No Alex, infant. Get your head out of your ass she isn't a spider." Laf joked, a grin clear on his face.
"Sorry Laf." Alex held his gaze with Anna and did not see Laf's large grin to show him that Laf was joking.
"Alex! I'm kidding. I'm kidding Al." Laf said softly. "But my point is, mom and dad love us as much as they love Anna. They don't care if you are they're blood or not! If they did, would they have adopted two kids?"
"Probably not.""No, they would not have! But they did, and that proves that they don't care. And that they truly love us." Laf sat next to Alex. "Now, I want o be included in the next grease dance routine, I felt extremely left out."
