"Alex." Aaron murmured to himself. He watched Alex from afar. Alex had been looking extremely tired and wary that last week. Eliza and Angelica were still away and it was taking its toll on Alex.
Alex was drawing all by himself when a girl approached him. "Hello." She said quietly. "I'm Maria. I was wondering if I could draw with you?" She asked.
"Of course!" Alex never turned any potential friend away. "Sit here!" He lay the seat next to him, and continued to draw. Maria grabbed some paper and a green crayon. She began to scribble on the page.
"Do you like it?" She held up the scribbles.
"It's not exactly my taste." Alex saw the girls face fall. "But I love it!" He lied. He didn't want to hurt her feelings. That would be rude.
"Thanks!" The girl grinned. "Wow. That's good!" Maria pointed at Alex's drawing of a pond and a tree. There was a swing on the tree. It was based off of Alex's favorite memory. Laurens and Alex had snuck to a pond and swung the swing into the pond. It was ridiculously fun, cold and wet. As ponds usually are.
"Thanks!" Alex beamed at Maria.
"Do you thinkI could keep it?"Maria asked.
"Sure!" Alex said. He found himself agreeing, though he had really wanted to keep it. Why couldn't he just say no? He shrugged.
