Anna squeezed George's finger tightly and with delight. Her entire hand couldn't even fit around George's pinky. George smiled down at his tiny little daughter as she lay in her white crib. He chuckled to himself as her tongue slipped out of her mouth.
"You're so cute." He cooed, poking her nose as he said it. She smiled.
"Glooglegl." Anna said in response."Sounds about right." He murmured.
Anna let go of his finger."Glooglegle! Glooglegle!" She repeated a few times, her voice rising. He placed a finger on her lips to shush her and made his voice a bit lower, for no real reason but to talk to her quietly. "Bubba, I promise to always be here for you. Come hell or high water, whatever difficulties occur. Because I am your dad. The one man that will never leave. I am making a promise to you, here and now that I will be kind to you no matter what. I will always hold you in my arms when you cry. If you go through a bad break up, if you do anything you shouldn't. If you break the law. I will be here for you in your glory and in your mistakes because that is what a good father does. That is what I do, because I love you. More than anything in this life. I will always put your needs above mine no matter what. I will always protect you." He took a deep breath. "But try not to break the law too often, 'kay?"
Alex stood sadly outside Anna's bedroom door. He heard George talk about Anna in a way he never had talked about Alex before. No father had. Not even Alex's birth father, not his adoptive father. Not his biological mother. Martha? Maybe. Tears trickled out of his eyes and down his cheeks. He shook his head, he can't cry. He had a brother, a sister, and both parents. All of them loved him dearly.
