I sprinted harder as I felt every bone in my body scream at me to stop. I couldn't now.
I jumped up grabbing a branch and hoisting myself into the trees. I used the branches to stay clear of the ground. If an attack came at least I could see it.
I stopped at the edge of the forest watching waiting.
THERE!
He was positioned in the grass a mile away from me. The large vast plains was a perfect place for defense. He could see anything coking towards him.
Bad part was I had to think fast. There was one at my back and one in front of me. Think Sore, Think!
Ok I would take the one in front first and face the second one when the time came.
I built up all my strength and speed and pounced forward. I was almost there but I'm sure he was well aware of me now. He turned quickly grabbing my arm before I could reach him and threw me a yard away.
Landed on my feet and push forward once again. It was too late to give up I was destined to beat him. I ducked and dodged but it was no good he was too fast. Jeez for an old man he was an incredible fighter.
I slipped my foot into his side sending him flying away.
"That counts right dad?" I said breathing heavily. He stood up and shook his head.
"No it does not. Your hand never reached me. Also you're dead," he pointed to the figure that had slipped behind me. There was a knife to my throat. I groaned.
"And why again do I have to fight the both of you? This is nowhere near fair!" I huffed. Duran slipped his knife away and smiled at me.
"You're fast but your instincts aren't as sharp as they need to be."
"Says the fairy assassin! your dad is the ruler of the fairies and your grandmother is my dads head assassin. It's in your blood."
"As it is in yours. Dragons should use their senses. You're blocking yours purposely." My dad said towering over me with a angry look.
I backed away so st tripping in Duran.
"I just...wanted to try and do it myself." I said lowering my head. I hated when he looked at me like that.
He pulled me in and petting my head.
"You've done well my little flame. Now this old dragon is going to rest. Have fun you two." He smiled and left towards the castle in the distance.
He was the greatest. I smiled as he walked off. Duran cut me off from my gazing by grabbing my waist and lifting me in the air.
"What are you doing you Fool let me down!" I laughed. He lowered me down and we sat in the grass gazing at the blue sky. It was beautiful. I scooted closer to him and my heart raced hoping he would notice. He did and lifted his arm so I could lie on his chest.
Duran was mostly quiet and calm like his dad. I was more out going and talkative but we were childhood friends and always got along. We grew close after his incident of scraping his knee when he was little. That was how my father noticed I had gained powers to heal.
It was pretty cool having Duran as a friend. Though I'm sure he only thinks of me that way. He would never know I actually had fallen in love with him a long time ago.
There was a huge shadow in the sky that made us sit up in attention. Was it a rouge dragon? They had been popping up lately.
No it wasn't... It was something far worse. My jaw dropped and I hissed as I gotnuo and started to sprint full speed towards the castle. My heart felt like it would beat out of my chest. Duran on my heels we dashed for our lives.
This was not practice. This was real. The real monsters were coming.
