Chapter Nine
Delilah's POV
The next day at school, Mark invited David and me to sit at his table during the lunch period. I then found out that the reason he had no classes with me is that he was a junior. Me being a freshman, it kind of threw me off. I thought he was flirting with me last night, but obviously not. He probably is an only child and feels like he needs to have a younger sibling he needs to protect and I'm it. I'm the little sister he never had. One he needs to protect from the guys who want in, and the girls who want to break me. Being a new girl, and not having a chance to prove myself quite yet, I think this might be it.
Mark explained to me that our homeroom teacher was a relative of his and that he has requested her for all three years he's been in high school. He told me a lot about his life. I was confirmed with the fact that he was an only child. His parents are rarely home so he goes to someone's house or stays home alone for the week or even more. I felt bad for him but when I looked into his eyes and at his face, I saw that he didn't want sympathy, he wanted honesty between us.
At lunch, I met a few of Mark's friends, all good looking and all off them looked athletic whether it was their bulging muscles or the bags full of equipment that gave it away I'm not quite sure but only one compared to Mark. His name was Braydon, he was nice and sweet. He told me he played baseball year-round, and to be honest, all I could picture was his in the skin-tight baseball pants.
After school was cheer tryouts. they cut out a few people most were freshmen which scarred me. I have been cheering since I was young. I have also been taking dance and gymnastics trying to get into the Olympics one day. I can see the gold medal being given to me, me standing on the top of the podium.
The next day, at cheer call-backs, I was told I made the team and was jumping up and down with joy. Why? Not only did I make the squad but I was on the A-squad. I was going to be traveling to the big competitions, and I was the only lower classmen on the squad. The captain also put me as co-captain, I wasn't sure if that was an actual title but it still had pride racing through me.
That night, when I got home I told everyone at our nightly family meeting and then I was brought out shopping for the things I needed and things I wanted and then, brought out to dinner to Bob's Diner where Uncle closed the diner and we had a celebratory party. It was one of the best days of my life.
