I woke up in the middle of the night with a need to pee. I made it to the bathroom but someone was already in it so I sat down by the door and waited. However, I got scared when I heard a sob, so I gently knocked on the door.
"Everything ok in there?" I asked.
The door swung open and I was embraced in a hug.
"How do you stay so strong?" Sadies voice made its way to my ears.
"What do you mean? Im not strong at all." Sadie pulled away to look at me.
"Can I tell you something?"
"Always."
"I was raped which lead to me being pregnant. I think about it every day."
"Im sorry you had to go through that. However, Im glad youre with us now. I promise we will help you through anything in any way we can. Can I tell you a secret?" She nodded. "My mom somehow knew about you. I dont know how, call it mothers intuition, but she told me she was glad that were friends because we could help each other. The secret though is that she wants to adopt you. Know that our doors are always open to you."
"You've already done so much for me. I should be on my knees thanking you right now."
"Why?" I asked. The conversation was deep but I could tell it was only going to get deeper.
"My demon is behind bars because of what he did to you. Jake and I had been dating for two years. It was our anniversary and he took me out for dinner and a movie, you know the dream date. He brought me home and during a heavy make-out session, he decided he was done waiting." She started crying so I grabbed her in a tight embrace. She took a shaky breath before continuing. "W-When I filed a case against him, it was immediately thrown out because of how long we had been dating. When you filed the case for sexual harassment, my case was brought back up and while they couldn't try him again for it, it definitely made the jury's decision easier."
"I'm sorry you had to go through all that but I'm thankful you could get the bit of closure the trial has given you."
"Can I talk to your mom at some point?" She looked at me with hopeful eyes.
"Of course."
