Liam, Niall, Rose and I were all hanging out back at our place. It had been a week since I recorded my song and I was playing around with the idea of releasing it as a single on the radio. I wasn't sure just yet. I still needed some more time.
Liam made us some cocktails and we sat around the counter.
"So did you guys get the text invite to Luna's birthday party?" Niall asked.
"I did." Liam replied.
"Surprise, surprise. I got nothing because Luna and Zayn still hate the shit out of me." I finished the remaining last sip of my drink. "Baby, can you pour me another one, please? I really need it right now in case you couldn't tell."
"Don't get yourself drunk, now, Willow." Liam said as he poured some more of the drink into my glass.
"Relax, I won't." I replied before taking a sip.
"If it makes you feel any better, I didn't get an invite either." Rose shrugged.
"That's because you're not close with them. You don't know them that well." I said.
"I know but I just want you to feel better. You can't blame me for trying."
I sighed. "No, you're right, I can't."
"Willow, I can stay here the night of the party with you if you want so you're not alone." Liam suggested.
"No, Liam. I don't want you to miss out." I replied.
"It's not worth it for me to go if you're not going."
"Liam, seriously, you should go. It will be fun. You're Luna's friend and it would mean a lot to her if you celebrated her birthday with her. I can stay here and watch Netflix or something. I'll be just fine." I said reassuringly.
"I can ask them if-"
I cut Liam off. "Liam, no. Do not ask them to do anything. I am not going to show up uninvited and ruin Luna's party. You're going and I'm staying home and that is final."
"Alright, fine. I'm sorry, I just feel bad that you're not invited." Liam said sympathetically.
I crossed my arms over my chest. "Don't feel bad. It's my own fault, I did this to myself. Things between us aren't going to be the same and I need to learn to accept that."
"Willow, I can hang out with you if you'd like. We can have a fun best friends night, just the two of us." Rose said smiling.
"I would love that!" I smiled back. "See, Liam? Problem solved! You have fun at the party and I have fun here with Rose."
Liam chuckled. "Ok that's fair enough. Everyone wins in that scenario, I guess."
"Everyone does!" I said. "That way, there's no drama and Luna can enjoy her party."
~
The next day, I had another counseling session. I talked to Liz some more about the situation and it went really well again. I didn't realize how easy it was to just talk about it. I guess it's Liz's sweet, nonjudgmental personality that made me feel that way. She even brought in chocolate chip cookies that she baked and they were so amazing!I even talked to her about what happened between me, Luna and Zayn. It hurt knowing I wasn't invited to her party but there was no way I couldn't understand. I reminded her too much of the Brian incident and I felt guilty for that. I still couldn't help but feel like it was my fault for dragging her into it. What was the point of trying to apologize? She'd only want to walk away so I don't end up giving her a panic attack.
I had a lot of contradicting thoughts about this. Sometimes, I found myself hanging on to this bit of hope that maybe, just maybe, Luna would realize she misses me as much as I miss her and things could go back to the way they were before. But that would only last a very short while. I'd start thinking that I was stupid for believing that. I had betrayed her trust and put traumatizing memories into her mind, of course I wasn't going to get anywhere by getting my hopes up. I needed to accept that and move on and I knew I could do it...eventually.
I got home and heard some noises.
"Liam, are you there?" I called.
"Yup, I'll be out there in just a second! I need to show you something really cool!" Liam replied.
I wondered what he was talking about. I didn't think much of it until I saw Liam walk out and I just stood there in awe with my mouth agape. It wasn't Liam I was paying attention to. It was the short, furry animal following him."Y-you...you got...a dog." I was still shocked.
"I did. She's a corgi, just like you wanted. I was going to wait to surprise you on your birthday but I couldn't find wait any longer. I mean, just look how adorable this little puppy is!" Liam sat down with the dog and petted her.
"Does she have a name?" I asked.
"No, I think you should name her." I sat down with Liam and the dog jumped on to my lap and attempted to lick my face.
"Hmm...how about Ariel?" I suggested.
"Ariel is perfect." Liam said.
"You honestly have no idea how happy I am right now! I love you so much, Liam. I will never be able to thank you enough for this."
Liam and I leaned in and kissed.
"It's no problem at all. I want you to be happy. Your happiness matters to me." His comment made my cheeks turn a bright shade of red.
"This definitely helps with taking all that stress off of my mind."
Ariel rolled over on to her stomach and I started giving her belly rubs.
"You two are so close already." Liam laughed.
"Since when am I not close with a dog?" I asked raising an eyebrow.
"Ok, true."
"You can hang out with Rose and I and we'll have lots of fun together!" I exclaimed, continuing the belly rubs.
"But I'm going to the party." Liam had a puzzled expression on his face.
"I meant Ariel, not you!"
So what if I didn't get to go to Luna's party? I had a dog and my other best friend to hang out with and that's all I needed.
