Chapter Four: Something's Gotta Give
*~*~*~*
"When a heart wasn't available, I opted to continue with Roy Henley's lung transplant." Teddy presented her case to all of us as we sat in the lecture hall.
"It's all in your head." April whispered to Jackson as the two of them sat in the row in front of Meredith and I.
"My name isn't on the OR board." Jackson shook his head. "I checked the schedule. Nobody wants to work with me, 'cause I'm not on anybody's service."
"It's an oversight, okay? Just- Just ask around." April assured him.
"Do you know how many things I've screwed up in the last month?" Jackson questioned her.
"Stop it." Meredith snapped at them, making the pair look back at us. "I'm serious. Just ask around and get on someone's service and get back to work."
"Holy..." I scrunched my nose up in disgust as Alex slipped into my row, sitting in the empty seat to my left, he reeked.
"You smell like you're sweating booze." Meredith noted. "Where have you been?"
"I want the weekend you had." Jackson glanced back at him, a longing look in his eyes. I simply rolled my eyes before slapping him on the back of the head. "Ow!"
"Eyes up front." I smirked at him.
"What happens in Vegas, you know?" Alex shrugged. "Hey, who's Stark? I'm supposed to be on Stark's service today."
"Me, too." I sighed, resting my chin in my hand. "He's Arizona's replacement in peds."
"Crap." Alex muttered. "I can't handle a bunch of sick kids today. I can't do it."
"So was it a bachelor party or-" April started to question him.
"Shh. They're talking about Cristina." Meredith hushed the redhead, making all of us direct our attention back to the front of the room.
"It became clear to Dr. Yang that they were gonna need to switch modalities." Teddy continued to present. "The patient was put on ecmo..."
"And why did Dr. Yang opt to use the intra-aortic balloon pump over an r-vad?" One of the attendings up front asked, interrupting the presentation.
"I, um... I can't answer for Dr. Yang." Teddy told the man.
"And why isn't she here?" The man questioned.
"She, um..." Teddy cleared her throat. "She quit. She left the program."
"I'm sorry." Mark spoke up, this was clearly news to him. "What? She what?"
"Dr. Yang cleared the balloon pump with Dr. McQeen who agreed that it was the best-" Teddy tried to continue to presentation.
"Go back. Go back." Mark told her as he rose to his feet. "Yang quit the program?"
"Yeah, where have you been?" Derek questioned his friend.
"Well, that's the first I've heard of it." Mark shook his head. "Hunt, what the hell happened?"
"She told the chief she quit." Owen said.
"Richard-" Mark looked to Webber for an explanation, but he shook his head, busy on his phone.
