Chapter Thirty-One: This is Why We Fight

*~*~*~*

"Holy shit." I swore, nearly dropping my phone at the number that had just texted me.

"I thought we agreed not to cuss around the baby?" Mark reminded me, having just gotten back from taking Joel to school. "What is it?"

"Catherine Avery just texted me." I informed him, still shocked by the instance. "She said that she's in town and wants to meet with me."

"Okay," he drew out the word, clearly not knowing what the big deal was. "Didn't you invite her to the wedding?"

"Yeah, but I didn't think she was going to accept it." I shook my head. "You know, there's always those people that you know won't come but you still invite them just so they don't get insulted."

"Yeah, it's called a pity invite." He nodded. "I'm pretty sure that's why Stevens and Karev invited me to their wedding. I still don't get why your so shocked that she texted you. After all, you are her son's sister."

"And he ex-husband's lover's baby." I clarified. "It's just weird."

"Okay, let's just forget about Catherine Avery for a second." He pulled my phone out of my grasp, making me look at him. "And forget all about the big pitch we have later, too."

"Then what am I supposed to be focusing on?" I raised a brow at him.

"Well, there is the fact that our wedding's in two months." He reminded me, a smile filling his lips at the mention of our impending nuptials. "All we've got figured out so far is the date, our bridal parties, and the location. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a nudist wedding, but I don't think your grandfather would approve."

"Well, then it's a good thing that I'm going to be wearing a dress." I rolled my eyes. "Callie dragged me to a fitting the other week, before all of this happened, and I found one. As for bridesmaid dresses, I'm just gonna do what Bailey did and have them figure out their own dresses, just in the same color."

"Okay, so this time, we'll do the peds and trauma stuff first." Arizona said, gesturing between herself and I as we all sat around in the waiting area of Crest Capital.

"And then I will go into the neuro." Derek nodded.

"Okay, can somebody else do the closing?" Callie asked. "I- I was awful last time we practiced."

"No, you were fine." Arizona tried to encourage her.

"We really want to end on my flop sweats?" Callie scoffed at the idea.

"She's right, she was terrible." Mark agreed. "I'll do the closing."

"I'm sorry. It should be just a few more minutes." The secretary apologized to us. "Can I get you any water or coffee?"

"Coffee." Cristina nodded while the rest of us declined the offer. "And a bagel or something."

"Really?" I raised a brow at her once the secretary had walked away.

"I'm starving." She shrugged. "This meeting was supposed to start half an hour ago."

"Okay, he's a billionaire." Callie reminded her. "One of his minutes is worth forty of ours."
