Chapter Thirteen: Take the Lead
*~*~*~*
"Is it up yet?" Alex asked as he and I joined Meredith and Cristina.
"Not yet." They both shook their heads.
"Hey, you heard about Zola?" I asked Meredith. Everyone was curious about when Meredith and Derek would get Zola back since she was taken away, being told that the agency had some serious thinking to do after everything that had gone down with Meredith.
"I haven't heard anything." Meredith sighed.
"And she's clipping her first aneurysm." Cristina informed us as we all headed towards the hall, towards the OR board. Today was the day that we would all be leading our own surgeries, the attendings being forced to just stand back and watch us work. Everyone was anxious to see which OR they'd get. "Are you sure you don't want to start with something simpler?"
"Yeah, like juggling chain saws?" Alex suggested.
"Oh, thanks. That's helping." Meredith scoffed.
"Hey, is it up yet?" Cristina asked April and Jackson as they both caught up with us.
"It's going up now." April told us.
"Hey, you heard anything?" Jackson asked Meredith.
"Haven't heard anything." She told him the same thing she told me.
"How are you even here?" April shook her head.
"Well, there's nothing I can do, and I have to do something, so I might as well do this." Meredith shrugged.
"It's up." I pointed at the OR board where a scrub nurse was putting up the final touches.
"OR three. Yes!" Cristina grinned happily. "I love OR three."
"Wait. Bowel resection?" April frowned, seeing the procedure Alex was assigned. "I thought you had a peds case."
"I switched last minute." Alex said.
"You can't just switch." April glared at him, clearly not happy about the change in plans.
"Hey, the peds case is covered." Alex shrugged, not really seeming to care about what April said. "Watley's on it."
"Yep." I nodded in agreement.
"Oh, Plastics." Cristina mused at the sight of Jackson's procedure. "I thought you were the gunther. Wasting all your capital on boob jobs, huh?"
"It's a cleft lip." Jackson corrected her. "I'm changing a kid's life today. Look at Kepner, she's fixing a bum knee. Way to shoot for the stars, kid."
"Okay, guys." April turned to look at all of us. "Uh, you also start teaching skills labs today. I made up a schedule for the month. It's up on the board in my office."
"In your what?" Meredith questioned.

"When did we get this?" Cristina questioned as April showed all of us into her office. It was a decent sized room with a desk area, couch, chair, coffee table, and little kitchen area.
"Uh, we didn't." April shook her head. "It's for the chief resident, actually."
"This is good. I can sleep on this." Alex laid himself down on April's couch.
"Yeah, I got that on Craigslist. It's- It's mine." April cleared her throat.
"We got a fridge?" Meredith smiled, excited. I snorted in laughter as I watched Jackson knock a small plant off April's desk.
