Chapter Fifty-Five: Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

*~*~*~*

"Hey," Alex greeted me as I hurried out to his car with my coffee. Mark had left early for a surgery, leaving Ashley at the house with the kids. So, I had decided to join Alex, Meredith, Amelia, and Maggie in their carpooling.

"Hey, I'm the first one?" I asked in surprise when I climbed into the backseat, finding no one else in the car with him. "I had a screaming baby to take care of, how is this possible?"

"I don't know," he shrugged as Meredith hurried down her driveway and climbed into the passenger's seat while Amelia and Maggie joined me in the backseat. As soon as Meredith got in she turned off his music. "Hey!"

"Good morning," Meredith greeted him, ignoring his protest to the music being turned off.

"You said you were drunk," Amelia directed her words to Maggie as the cardio surgeon climbed into the middle backseat, letting Amelia have the other door seat. "Can I at least ask if you used a condom?"

"Shut up," Maggie shot the older woman a glare.

"Look, there is a jumbo box of condoms under the bathroom sink," Amelia informed her. "I share. They are for everyone."

"Jumbo? Seriously?" Alex glanced at her through the rearview mirror.

"I was being optimistic," Amelia sighed.

"Do I want to know what's going on?" I questioned the women beside me.

"Wait," Meredith's eyes widened as she looked back at her younger sister. "That was you making all that noise last night? I thought that was Amelia. Well, you aren't shy. And you have a filthy mouth."

"Thank God I don't live in that house anymore," I gave a small shake of my head. I could still remember all the noises I had heard during my intern year, how I had panicked every time, worrying it would wake Joel up.

"Okay, can we not talk about this?" Maggie asked. "Please. I am begging you."

"So, the intern was good in bed," Amelia smirked.

"Intern?" My brows shot up to my hairline at the new information.

"What intern? Maggie, what intern?" Meredith questioned.

"Alex can hear us," Maggie reminded her sister.

"Alex doesn't care about this. Do you care, Alex?" Meredith asked.

"Do I care about any of this conversation? No," Alex shook his head, no doubt wishing he hadn't offered to drive today.

"Did he visit ladytown?" Amelia pried. "Because I find if they don't go down to ladytown the first time, there should be no next time."

"She's right about that," Meredith agreed.

"Yep," I nodded. "If Mark hadn't gone down to ladytown the first time then I could be married to Alex for all we know."

"Why do you make that sound like a bad thing?" Alex shot me a look through the rearview mirror.

"No more talking!" Maggie snapped. "If any of you says another word, I will jump out of this car while it is moving, which will likely result in me knocking Beth out in the process. And ladytown is just as bad as ladyplace."

"Geez, so sensitive," Amelia rolled her eyes.

"Hey, what time do you want me at your house tonight?" Alex asked Meredith.
