Chapter Eight: Not Responsible

"Oh, look." Arizona smiled at the ultrasound monitor as Mark and I stood beside her in the middle of Callie's ultrasound.
"Nice size, good-looking placenta." Callie's OB, Lucy, commented.
"Is that an arm?" Callie asked as she pointed at the monitor.
"Yep." Lucy nodded, making Mark and Arizona both aw.
"All good. Did you schedule an amnio yet?" Lucy asked.
"We don't need an amnio." Mark shook his head, making all of us look at him.
"Um... we don't?" Callie questioned.
"Of course we do. We'll set it up." Arizona said.
"Why do we need an amnio?" Mark asked.
"I can think of a hundred reasons why." Arizona told him.
"You want me to take 'em down one by one or all together?" Mark crossed his arms.
"Hey, hey, hey." Callie gaze him a warning look.
"It's so nice that there are three of you." Lucy commented.
"Yeah, makes great entertainment." I nodded in agreement.
"I gotta go." Mark sighed as his pager went off. "Don't let her shove a giant needle in your belly before we discuss this."
"Remind me why you made me go to the ultrasound with you?" I asked Mark as I followed him out of the room, feeling awkward just being in the room.
"As backup." He reminded me. "It's two against one about the amnio if you're not there, too. After all, you didn't have one when you were pregnant with Joel, did you?"
"Okay, how many times do I have to remind you that I was a broke college student when I had Joel?" I sighed. "Callie's in a different situation, you can't have her do everything I did, not when she has these opportunities that I didn't."
"Wait, so you're pro amnio?" He frowned.
"Yes, in fact, I am." I nodded. "And, for future reference, you're not dragging me to anymore ultrasound appointments just to get a free vote out of me. We may be together, but Callie's the pregnant one, not me. I don't get a vote in all of this stuff."

"Ricky, big day." Teddy greeted her patient as Jackson and I followed her into the hospital room.
"Bring it on." Ricky grinned.
"Is this your sister?" Teddy asked, nodding at the woman standing beside his bed.
"This is my girlfriend- Julia." Ricky introduced her.
"You're kidding. He's been talking about you for months." Teddy told the young brunette.
"I figured, if there was ever a day to take off work, it's when your boyfriend's getting new lungs." Julia smiled at Ricky as they held hands.
"Smart." Teddy nodded. "She waited for the real fun. All right. Let's do this."
"Well, your new lungs should leave Portland in about two hours." Jackson said. "You haven't taken any of your cystic fibrosis meds since last night, right?"
