Chapter Thirty-Six: Seal Our Fate

*~*~*~*

"Oh, baby's sleeping." Bailey rocked Meredith and Derek's newborn in her arms the morning after the storm as I stood beside her, my finger grasped tightly in the sleeping infant's hand.

"He's so cute." I glanced over my shoulder at Derek and Meredith, both of them smiling widely at their little boy.

"Yeah, he definitely got that from his mom." Mark joked.

"Hey, be nice." I gave him a light smack on the arm.

"Okay, we should get started." Owen cleared his throat, having called all of us to Meredith's hospital room so we could talk. "Um, Bailey, we have some board business that we need to disc-"

"I'm not going anywhere." Bailey shook her head. "Me and this baby got Bailey business to discuss. Don't we? Yes, Mr. Derek Bailey Shepherd. Yes, we do."

"I still can't believe you named your son after her and not me." Mark pouted. "And to think, I was going to name my son after you."

"You were what?" I raised a brow at my husband, this being the first I had heard of it. "I never agreed to any of that."

"What's wrong with my name?" Derek raised a brow at me.

"What does Zola think of him?" Arizona tried to change the subject.

"Oh, she wants to take him to daycare for show and tell." Meredith chuckled.

"Where's Richard?" Derek asked.

"I paged all the board members." Owen shrugged.

"I can go look for him." I offered.

"We'll just fill him in later." Derek shook his head. "Well, Avery should be here, too."

"Yeah, well, he was being a hero last night." Owen reminded all of us. "He dislocated his shoulder saving a kid from the bus crash."

"What bus crash?" Meredith's eyes widened, having been kept out of the loop last night.

"She had a baby. She doesn't know things." Cristina waved our friend's question off.

"So tell me." Meredith pressed.

"A church was evacuating some people, and their bus overturned." Derek explained.

"Good news is, everyone survived, and there are no major injuries." Owen added.

"And bad news?" Arizona asked.

"Everything else." The ginger haired man sighed. "The blood bank is flooded, and the ER looks like it was ransacked."

"So we need to close the ER?" Derek asked.

"We're dangerously low on meds." Owen said, not directly answering the question. "Personnel can't make it in due to the flooding."

"So we need to close the ER." Cristina sighed.

"Can we do that?" I asked.

"You are the board." Owen reminded all of us. "I am telling you that the ER cannot open today."

"What do we need?" Meredith asked. "I mean, I can try to coordinate with our suppliers. I had a baby. I'm not dead."

"If they have it, then we want it." Owen told her. "In the meantime, let's make sure that our inpatients are taken care of and discharge who we can."
