We decided to wait until end of shift to tell everyone we were leaving tonight. We were only going to be gone six weeks, but still it's almost like we are going to be gone forever. Six weeks will be good for us.
It came to be time and we had to tell everyone the news. Casey looked at everyone " hey guys... Gabby and I have something to say.." Hermann looked at us " Gabby's pregnant.." I laughed " I'm not.. no." Matt held my hand " were going to be gone for a while... were going away." Kidd asked " for how long...?" I looked at Matt and the everyone else " six weeks..." Brett looked at us " is everything alright?" I nodded " everything is fine... we just never had a honeymoon because everything has been crazy for us..." Matt nodded " and now i don't have to worry about being alderman since i stepped down and it's our time to focus on family..." Hermann looked at us seeing us happy choosing us " yeah I get that..." Casey smiled " yeah Hermann your acting Lieutenant..."
I went over to talk to Brett privately " hey.. yeah Chief said he got some good to fill in for me so everything should be fine while were away..." Brett hugged me " you have fun and call if you need to talk..." I nodded " well were going to be a little off the grid.. so I'm not sure about cell service but i will if i can...."
Matt and Kelly talked. Kelly looked at him " you ok man?" I nodded " I'm good... Gabby and I we need this. We never got a honeymoon.... and I just want her to be happy." Kelly looked at me " yeah you two deserve a break..." Matt smiled " hey man... when we get back... down the line let's plan that fishing trip we talked about...." He nodded " yeah let's do it..."
