"Pihuuuuu!" My sister Gayatri calls me from below. "There's a phone for you!"
I rush down and take the landline from my sister, telling a thank you. I put the handset to my ear and speak out.
"Hello?"
"Hi, is this Pihu Ahuja?"
"Yes, this is she."
"Hi, we're calling from the ICC. You had applied for the post of Assistant Manager in Dubai?" The female spoke.
"Yes, I have." I said, please let me get selected!
"Well, we have seen your resume. It's a pretty impressive one, being just 24. But you've got only four years of experience." She said. Shit, I remember they had asked for five.
"But seeing as you've been an intern for Adidas, which is quite a difficult position to get, we're willing to take your resume into consideration. You stay in Delhi, correct?" She asked.
"Yes, ma'am." I replied. Give me a job!
"Alright, could you come into the BCCI office on Wednesday at 10am?" She asked. "I'm in India for the week but I've only got Wednesday morning."
"I can make it, absolutely." I said, giddy with excitement.
"Great, I'll email you the details. Thank you."
"No problem, Miss -"
"Shaw, Amanda Shaw. I'm the Executive Officer." Amanda said.
"Right, thank you ma'am."
"So, what happened?" Gayatri spoke after I kept the phone, scaring the shit out of me. She was leaning against the door of the kitchen, eating an apple.
"I got called for an interview." I said, walking towards the kitchen.
"You always get called for an interview and you always get the job. You just don't accept it." She said, following me in the kitchen. "So, what's it going to be this time?"
"It was from ICC, Gayu." I said, opening the fridge and pulling out another apple. I went to the sink and washed it and then took a bite.
"Who?" She asked.
"International Cricket Council, stupid." I said, walking out of the kitchen and into the living room, jumping on the sofa.
"Where is this job? Last time you accepted a job within two months you were shipped off to Washington." She asked. "How come even though I have the job which allows me to travel everywhere, you've travelled more than me?"
"Because you're shit, that's why." I laughed. "The job's in Dubai."
"Dubai!" She made a face. "It's so hot there! What will you do, stay in the Ice World there?"
"Haha, very funny. The pay's pretty good, all I'm saying." I said, flicking through the channels.
"Suit you." She shrugged and got off the sofa, heading towards her room. "Don't disturb me for the next three hours, please."
"Yea, okay."
