We pulled away from the kiss to get some air, both of us breathing heavily as we looked at each other with a smile. When our breathing began to return to normal, Mike placed a palm against my cheek, pulling me closer again. Our lips moved smoothly as they touched. I felt his hand roaming my upper torso as mind did his. As the kiss deepened, he got up slightly to slowly push me to the ground, landing on top of me with his arms on either side of my head, his lips never leaving mine.

Suddenly, the sound of a ringtone blared around us, causing us to pull apart yet again. A small smile remained on my face as well as his as he reached into his pocket and answered the call.

As soon as he started to talk, my smile faded as the gravity of the situation struck me, the impact feeling as though someone had just slapped me.

I had just kissed Mike.

My husband's brother.

My brother-in-law.

I began to panic internally. Why would I do that? I asked myself. I placed my head in my hands, drowning in guilt. After a few minutes of mumbling, he ended the call and looked back at me with the same smile as I looked at him with a blank expression.

"Sorry about that," he said, running a hand through his hair. My eyebrows scrunched in confusion. Upon noticing, he continued "about the call."

I forced a laugh as the heaviness of situation continued to fill my mind, making my heart heavy.

"Mike, we can't do this. Ever again," I said with a solid voice, causing his smile to turn upside down. I didn't like being the cause of his frown but this just wasn't right; we both knew that. He remained stationary for a few seconds before taking a deep breath and getting up, holding his hand out to me.

"I have to get going. But I can drive you to your parent's if you want," he said as I reached for his hand, turning his head to face away from me. I mumbled an 'okay' and followed him to the car.

It was a very long and silent drive as we made our way to my parent's house. And when we got there he didn't even reply to my saying goodbye. I slowly got out of the car and turned around to see him already driving off. That just made me feel even worse.

As I entered the house, my mother asked me how work was. I threw an 'it was fine' over my shoulder and made my way to my room. As soon as I entered, I threw myself on the bed, feeling my phone vibrate. I quickly sat up and reached for it, noticing that it was a text from Ashley. I was slightly disappointed because a part of me had hoped it would be Mike.

How're you feeling Victoria? -Ashley

I didn't know how to reply to that because I felt horrible about what had happened. I really hated the thought of me leading him on but unless there was a better explanation, that was exactly what happened. I replied to her text quickly and went to take a shower. As I returned to the room, I saw that my phone was ringing. I quickly picked it up and answered.

"Hello?" I spoke.

"Hey Victoria," my heartbeat began to accelerate as I heard Mike's voice. A small smile crept onto my lips, relieved that he was still talking to me.

"Hey what's up?"

After a little moment of silence, he replied. "I'm really sorry about what happened earlier. I didn't mean for it to go as far as it did. And I hope you'll forgive me," he said, not allowing me to interrupt.

"You don't need to apologize Mike." And at this, I heard a sigh of relief.

"I want to make it up to you. Would that be alright?" I spotted a bit of hesitance in his voice.

"How?" I asked, slightly intrigued.

"Well when we were at the cliff, the call I got was from my mom. And she told me that my cousin is getting married this weekend. So I was wondering if you wanted to go with me," he said.

I swallowed in an attempt to get rid of the lump which had formed in my throat. "Are you sure that's a good idea?" I whispered, feeling as if I had lost my voice.

I heard a soft chuckle before he replied. "You're still part of the family, Tori."

It felt great hearing him call me by my nickname again. But being a part of the family? I wasn't so sure. I didn't know that family members went around kissing each other the way we did.

"Um... Okay. Sounds great."

"Awesome. I'll pick you up on Sunday around two. Dress formally." And before I could say anything else, he hung up.

I flung myself onto my bed, landing with my back to the mattress and looking at the ceiling. As I closed eyes, my phone violently vibrated in my hand. Seeing that it was another call, I picked it up.

"Victoria!" Fae's voice attacked my ears, worry coating it.

"What's wrong?"

"You need to get here quickly. I just found Alex collapsed at your front door," she quickly informed me.

"Which front door?"

"At the house you used to share with him."

My eyes widened as the worst possible scenarios played in my head. I was so caught up in my thoughts that I didn't stop to think about why she was there.

What business did Fae have at the house that I used to share with my husband?
