Motorbikes and Sad Stories
"Who is that?" My mother asked, stepping up the stairs to sit next to me at the bar.
"That was my friend" I replied, indicating to the bar man I wanted a drink.
He gave me the 'one minute' sign. I sighed in reply.
My mother just raised an eyebrow, a look of disbelief on her face. I sighed again. "That was Lukas Paxton" I said, knowing I'd set her off.
My mother's eyes went wide. "You know Lukas Paxton?" She asked, gasping and looking around wildly.
"Mum, that's Lukas, the one I'm dating" I murmured, hoping she wouldn't hear it.
"What!" She shrieked, definitely hearing it.
People turned to look at us worriedly. Men and women in their fancy clothes, immediately judging us. I shushed her quickly. Her head turned wildly to look for him again and I quickly grabbed my phone.
Avery Jenkins:
Ah. Quick update. My mother saw us and I told her we were dating.
I know you aren't the type but please save me.
A.J
I sent it quickly before she whirled around to face me again. "How in the world did you get him to like you?" She asked wildly.
I felt something wash over me. Disappointment? Was I disappointed in her disapproval of me?
She didn't think I was pretty enough to bag a man like Lukas on my own. She doesn't believe that someone could be attracted to me. Was I really that bad?
I had always thought I was rather beautiful. Well at least pretty. With my long brownish blonde hair and green eyes, I took after my father more so than my mother. Although, I didn't remember my father much.
I knew that Lukas and I had a deal but hearing it come out of my mothers mouth, made me feel foolish. What was I doing? I felt my throat close up before I heard my mother squeak. Her eyes were wide as she stared behind me. "Avery" his voice said, darkly.
I closed my eyes slowly. His hand touched my lower back leaning towards me, a jolt ran through my body. Lukas was blocking me from my mother's sight. I finally opened my eyes and met his. They studied me as I felt my eyes water. "Are you okay?" He asked, worriedly.
Well, he sounded worried but I knew he wasn't. It was all an act.
I merely nodded and pressed my lips together tightly. "Lets go" he said gently, prying my hand from the bar.
I let him take my arm and pull me up from the bar stool. "Apologies Mrs Jenkins, I'll be taking my girlfriend home" he said, as my feet hit the floor.
I didn't hear my mother's reply before Lukas was pulling me away from the bar. His voice and the image of people staring at us blurred as he led me away. "What's up with you?" He asked, his voice rough.
He yanked on my arm roughly before pushing the glass doors open and he pulled me down the stairs when I finally pushed his hands away. "Nothing, its fine" I rasped out, rubbing at my eyes.
"You're crying, why are you crying?" He asked, his face returning to it's impassive mask.
"I said its fine!" I exclaimed, stumbling back from him.
