Meetings and angry Lukas.

"Need help?" Lukas asked, as I climbed down the makeshift ladder.

I shook my head before jumping off the last step and landing on the balls of my feet. I bent down and picked up my heels.
I straightened.

Lukas waited for me to walk in front of him as I stepped onto the damp grass. I turned my head to look back at the treehouse and the forest that held it.

As a child, I had loved forests. I believed in trolls, fairies and elves. Every forest I ever went to, I imagined them walking beside me, sharing the secrets of the forest with me.

Now, the forests looked cold and unfriendly. Because I had grown up and knee the dangers that it held. "Are you okay?" Lukas asked.

He had fallen into step beside me and he stopped me by pulling on my arm. I stopped at well. "I'm fine" I replied.

Lukas studied my face. "No you aren't, you're quiet and you're never quiet" he replied, looking concerned.

I had to remember this was all an act. "Lukas I'm fine" I reassured him.

"If this is about the kiss.." He trailed off.

"No, its not, nothings wrong, my head was just in another place" I said, giving him a fake smile.

He still didn't look convinced but he let it drop. We started walking again and as we reached the stone courtyard, I stopped and slipped on my shoes again.

Lukas pressed a hand to the small of my back, guiding me through the crowd that turned to look at us.
Looks of distaste and hatred seemed to fill their faces. Maybe they realised I was just a commoner.

"Father, you asked to see me?" Lukas said as we neared the table we had abandoned.

"Ah yes, personal matters, your partner can join the other ladies" Lucian said, looking up.

I glanced at Lukas. "Whatever you say to me can be said in front of her, I trust her with my life" Lukas said, the corner of his mouth quirking up.

I looked at him and smiled. Lucian didn't have the same level of happiness. "I would rather her join the other ladies" he said, authority leaking into his tone.

Lukas was about to reply when a devilishly handsome man came to my rescue. "I'll take care of her Lukas" Kaiyan said pronouncing the name 'Luka'.

Lukas's jaw tightened but let go of me. I shot him an apologetic glance and Kaiyan took my hand. "So when you said you had other plans, you were coming to this party with Lukas?" He asked leading me away.

"And when you said it'd probably be boring like all the other ones, you meant this one?" I asked.

Kaiyan's eyes twinkled as he led me to the dancefloor. "Touché Miss Jenkins" he replied.

I smiled. "I do have a burning question though, I thought you and Lukas were ready to kill each other?" He asked, twirling me around.

My feet felt light. "Well we made a truce" I replied, shrugging one shoulder.

"A truce? You must be special, Lukas doesn't do truces" Kaiyan said, pulling me back to him.

I shrugged again. "So if this party is so boring, why do you come?" I asked, changing the subject.

"Lukas is my best friend, normally he doesn't escort a beautiful woman beside him, I'm normally his wing man, but I guess I'm not needed this night" he replied, twirling me under his arm.
