The Start, The Middle, The End
Music played yheough my headphones, drowning out the nonsense of my mother and Aunt fighting when a message popped up on my phone.
Collin:
Performing at The Kieki Bar at 5. Come watch xI knew Collin loved to sing and he was really good with the guitar but he's always been too afraid to perform in front of people, but by the looks of it. He was ready.
I texted back that I would and I sent a quick text to Connor, Eloise and Lukas to meet me there. I took my headphones out and stood up. "Will you two stop fighting, I'm a grown woman and can look after myself, Aunty thank you for always making sure I did my work and mother, thank you for teaching me beauty standards don't matter" I said before turning around and walking up the stairs.
I checked my phone and glanced at the clock. 4 pm. I quickly got sressed, checking my phone to see a text from Lukas. I grabbed my purse and swiped a touch of pink lipstick on my lips before bouncing downstairs. "Just where do you think you're going?" My aunt asked.
"Collin's performing for the first time in front of an audience, I wanna be there" I replied.
She pursed her lips before letting me through. Lukas's car sat in the driveway, his dark hair mussed back. I closed the front door behind me before running to his car.
"Thanks!" I exclaimed as I buckled in."Avery, as your boyfriend, it's my job to pick you up when you need a ride" Lukas replied before chuckling and reversing.
"That may be so but it's still a nice gesture" I replied.
He rolled his eyes before taking my hand. "So Collin's first audience?" He asked, looking out the window.
"Yeah normally he just sings at home, almost everytime I'm at his house, he's strumming and singing but now it's an audience" I said before grinning.
"He's probably so nervous" I added.
"He'll be fine, he's got friends in the crowd" Lukas replied.
"You're being very mellow towards him" I said, glancing at my dark haired knight.
He lifted up my hand and flashed the ring off in the sun, making me roll my eyes. "He can't touch you, you're all mine" Lukas said before staring at the road again.
The bar was full by the time we showed up, we had to park a street away and had to elbow our way in, to get a good seat. We chose a bar stool with four chairs for Eloise and Connor as well. Lukas slipped off into the crowd to get us a few drinks.
Eloise showed up before Connor, Eloise leading the grumpy man to pur table when the lights started to dim. I felt something brush my shoulder and Lukas slid into the seat next to me.Collin wasn't the first one on. But when five o'clock rolled around, I waited patiently for my British friend. He strolled up on stage with his guitar and Eloise and I hotted at him. He grinned at us.
"Good afternoon ladies and gents, hope you're having a fantastic afternoon, this song I will perform to you is very special" Collin said looking around before resting his eyes on me.I gave him a thumbs up.
"But because it's so special, I'd like the original writer to join me up on stage to sing it, Avery.." he trailed off, looking at me expectedly.
Lukas turned his head to look at me, everyone looked at me. "Go babe" Lukas whispered.
I gulped and moved towards the stage. The stage hand gave me a wooden stool to sit on. I plunked it under the mircophone and sat on it. Swallowing the vomot that threeatened to show. Do it for Collin.
Collin smiled at me. "Thanks" he whispered.
He started to play.
"If I didn't know better, I'd hang my hat right there
If I didn't know better, I'd follow you up the stairs" I sang.
I heard Eloise woo me and a few claps around the room."Stop saying those sweet things
You know I'd like to hear
The horns are blowing louder
And they're destroying me" We sang together, I glanced at Collin and smiled before looking at Lukas."Why do I keep drinking
Wasting my time on you
If I didn't know better
Well, dammit, I do"I glanced at Collin but he was already looking at me.
"There's a hole in what you're sayingI can plainly see
You have a lover that's waiting, but baby
You're right here with me" he started to sing."oh
You might as well be the devil
Oh keeping me out past three" I sang, shifting.
"Oh you're the one with that apple
So baby, you can't blame me" He sang, before looking out at the crowd and at his guitar."Why don't you keep drinking
Get me one night with you
If I didn't know better
Well dammit, I do
You know that I do" We sang, Collin looking at me intently again. We finished the song and everyone burst into applause, I blushed. I stepped off the stage and rejoined Lukas. He was silent for a moment. "You wrote that?" He asked.
"Collin and I wrote it really" I replied, as Eloise turned around to squeal at me. I didn't get to finish talking with Lukas before Collin spoke again. "This next song is about a girl who I fell in love with" he said before singing again.
"He means you" Lukas said suddenly angry.
"Lukas" I hissed.
"What?" He snapped.
"I'm not doing this again, I'm wearing your ring for god sake" I snapped back.
Eloise glanced at us. Collin was reaching his chorus. "I saw the way you two were looking at each other up there" Lukas said, his jealous streak stretching.
"Its called friendship, we wrote a kick ass song and we performed it together" I said, looking at him weirdly.
Lukas sighed. "I need some air" he said before slipping into the crowd as away from me.
