Broken Hearts and The Last Goodbye
Lukas kept his hand in mine as we drove to College. He only took it out to shift gears before entwining our fingers again. I wasn't looking at him but at the landscape that blurred past.
Things had changed over the few weeks that flew by.
Lukas pulled into the school parking lot and people turned to look at the black Lamborghini. Truthfully, I had gotten used to the Paxton lifestyle but I didn't use it to my advantage at all.
College kids milled around as Lukas parked and turned to look at me.
"What?" I asked, self conscious.
"Nothing, I just want to tell you that I love you" he said, taking my hand again.
"Lukas, you're acting strange" I said, noticing the weird behavior.
He sighed. "Shits going to go downhill and I just want to tell you how much you mean to me, and I'm sorry for any heartache I've caused you" he said sincerely.
"What do you mean shits going to go downhill?" I asked, worried.
He stared at me for a second longer before looking away and letting go of my hand. He climbed out of the Lamborghini and I followed suit. "Stay behind me" he warned.
I was so confused until I saw Kaiyan leaning against his black motorcycle. He wasn't looking our direction, but my eyes roamed over his black leather jacket, messy black hair, white collar t-shirt, leather pants and black boots.
He had his arms crossed and his jacket sleeves rolled up to his elbow. His tattoos stood out amongst the bad boy look.
He turned his head, seeing us. He lowered his black glasses before standing up.
Lukas and I were already halfway to him when Lukas mumbled to me. "Stay here" he said, his tone icy.
I stopped, hearing the warning and danger in his tone. Lukas didn't even hesitate, suddenly he was beside me and then suddenly he was holding Kaiyan up in the air by his throat.
"You have some balls coming back here!" Lukas exclaimed loudly.
Kaiyan coughed. "I came to warn you" he said, his face turning slightly red.
I took a small step forward. "Warn me of what? The fact you contacted my ex and tried to get her to break Avery and I up?" Lukas snarled, his grip tightening.
"Yes, I didn't think she was here yet, she was supposed to arrive two days from now, I drove all night to tell you!" Kaiyan exclaimed weakly.
"You couldn't just call?" Lukas asked.
"No, Avery wouldn't answer my call and you definitely wouldn't" he coughed.
I took another step forward, peering around at the group that gathered around us. "Why would you call her?" Lukas asked, hurt lacing his tone.
It was easy to forget that these two were best friends before I came along. "I was jealous Lukas, I needed revenge and I'm sorry!" He yelled.
Lukas let go of him and Kaiyan dropped to the ground. He sputtered, catching his breath. Lukas turned his head to look at me, taking note of my wide eyes.
"Get out of my sight" he growled to Kaiyan.
Kaiyan stood up and dusted the dirt of his pants. The crowd waited with baited breath. "You don't deserve her, no matter how many lessons you take, you'll always be violent, what happens if she says the wrong thing at the wrong time?" He asked.
It was so fast, I didn't even see it coming. Lukas had punched Kaiyan in the face. Kaiyan fell back, crashing into his motorcycle and falling to the ground. I started forward but Lukas gave me a look. I stopped cold, scared.
Kaiyan slowly stood up, blood falling from his lip. "See?" He asked.
Lukas growled. "Go away" he said in a cold, dark tone.
"Avery, you have to understand, what happened between us wasn't a lie and I'm sorry I lied to you, truth is... I was scared" he said, looking around Lukas.
My eyes widened. "I was falling for you really fast and I needed to get out there, needed some space" he said, glancing at Lukas briefly.
I gulped. Lukas started forward again and I grabbed his arm.
I wasn't expecting it and I heard the gasp before I even felt the pain. Lukas pushed me to the ground. My head hit the pavement and all I saw were blurry clouds. I took a deep breath but it hurt and I let it out slowly.
I heard a yell and a face appeared over mine. "Avery, you have a bad habit of getting me to save you" Hunter said.
Collin appeared above me as well. "Aves? Can you stand?" He asked.
I wanted to nod but I was too stunned to even reply. I turned my head slightly to see Kaiyan crouch on the ground, staring at me in horror.
I looked up at Lukas and his face broke me the most.
Absolute pain. He wasn't looking at me but at his hands, before looking at me. I knew what he was thinking.
I nodded to Collin and I stood up slowly, not enjoying the pain that came with it. Hunter sat me up, propping a knee behind my back before checking me over for injuries. "I'm fine" I mumbled.
"You are not fine Avery Jenkins!" Hunter hissed back.
I winced. Great. Now Hunter hated me. He fussed over a few cuts and bruises I had gotten from landing on the ground but my eyes were locked on Lukas's face.
He didn't seem to be working properly, he kept looking between his hands and my body on the ground.
Hunter and Collin helped me stand up when I finally passed medical inspection. Some people in the crowd were filming, others had hands on their mouths in shock.
I struggled to stand upright but I did.
I started to walk towards Lukas but he jerked back. "No, he's right, you should stay away from me" Lukas said, staring at his hands again.
"Lukas?" I asked, shocked.
"I'm violent and I could hurt you, Kaiyan was right" he said, looking up into my eyes.
I felt my heart breaking. "I'll help you through it Lukas, please don't end this" I said, taking another step.
"Avery, I'm so sorry" he said gently.
"Lukas, no"
"But I have to walk away, for your safety"
"No, fûck my safety, I want you!" I exclaimed.
"No, this is the last goodbye" he said, touching my cheek gently before turning around and started to head towards his car.
He was going to run. Run from everything we worked on. I could feel the satisfaction oozing off Kaiyan and that pissed me off.
I wanted Lukas. Not Kaiyan.
Cause God Damn it, I was in love with that insufferable, weird ass, jerk. I wanted Lukas to give me secret notes.
To not get in his car and drive away.
To come back and tell me it was a joke and that he loved me and would never leave me.
I turned to look at Collin, the only other guy I trusted.
He read my eyes and nodded.
"I'll drive" he said.
A/N
Collin. You are officially my BFF
He's gonna drive Avery to find her man and get him to stay.
The limit has been pushed. He's actually hurt her this time.
No threatened to hurt or anything, but actually hurt her. While he was / is in love with her.
The one thing he feared.
What's Lukas's plan?
What's Avery's plan?
Will Lavery be together forever yet?
