Long Grass and Chocolate Muffins
I woke up to Lukas's hand resting on my waist. My head had been resting comfortably on his shoulder when I finally woke. I looked at his sleeping face before glancing at his shoulder, hoping I hadn't drooled on him. I sat up slowly, trying to not jostle him awake. His hand tightened on my waist and I couldn't help but smile.
I turned my body to look at his face again, noticing all the worry lines had left his face. The sadness no longer etched onto his smooth skin.
5 Hours Earlier:
I reached for Lukas's hand, holding it as he stared down at his mother's grave. I watched him as his lip quivered before he bit it. "Would you like some time alone?" I asked gently, wanting him to say what he wanted to say.
He turned his head to look at me, his dark eyes full of sadness and longing. He longed for his mother back, he longed for that connection again. "Please don't leave" he almost whispered.
I tightened my grip on his hand, telling him that I wasn't going to leave him. Not when he needed me the most. He pulled me towards his body and gave me a side hug. I rested my head against his chest as he continued to draw in my strength.
For a moment I thought it was the cold wind that had him shuddering but then I realised that he was crying. I hugged him tighter and he buried his head in my hair.
I didn't say anything. There wasn't anything I could say. I didn't know his mother or what she was like, I just knew him. My Lukas.
It took a few minutes but when he stopped crying, he pulled away to kneel in front of her grave.
I took a step back before taking another one, giving him a quiet moment. I turned my head to look at the other graves, before glancing at Lukas. He was muttering and I took the opportunity to walk to the other graves, showing my respect to people I didn't know.
I bent over in front of a grave that looked like it hadn't been visited in years. I brushed the dirt and leaves off the headstone, dusting it. A hand touched my shoulder, making me jump.
"Ready?" Lukas asked.
I stood up and he took my hand. We wandered out of the forest slowly, crossing the grassy land, hand in hand. We were silent for a moment before a bird flew by and I smiled at it. "Avery" Lukas's voice said.
I looked at him, tilting my head. "Yes?" I asked. He stopped walking, pulling me around to look at him properly. I stood in front of him as he let go of my hands. "I've lost people I love, friends, family and even myself, but I don't want to lose you.." He trailed off.
I stood confused. "If you want out, I'm giving you a chance, I'm giving you a chance to be free from me.." He said, looking down at me.
I grasped his face between my two palms. He seemed surprised for a moment but I had already kissed him before he could say anything. I pulled away and he looked at me questionably. "I don't want out, I don't even want you thinking that I want an out because I don't, we've had a shitty run but Lukas god damn it, I love you and I'm in love with you and nothing you say or do will change that now" I said, gently shaking him.
He placed his hands over mine, pulling back down to his chest. He then moved forward like lightening and missed me. I felt myself step back from the force of his body hitting mine. His hands were everywhere, and soon we had fallen into the ground. Sticks and rocks dug into our skin but we didn't care.
