Time Frame Oregon: 1/2

The first 2 days of the new year were spent exactly as they should have been, surrounded by friends.

"Thank you for having us, Mrs. Seavey!!" I say as Zach and I walk out the door, our friends help carry our bags to the camper.

We hug everyone and say our goodbyes. "See you guys tomorrow. So nice meeting you Jess and Mary." I smile.

"Have a safe flight guys, see you soon." Zach says as he shuts his car door.

It's 8 am and we are going to drive through Oregon all day today, a very long 10-hour drive.

Zach is driving the first portion since I'm still half asleep.

Around 11 we decide to stop at a little diner on the side of the road.

"This place is so retro." I say with a big grin on my face.

I order some chocolate chip pancakes and Zach orders an omelet, we end up eating half of each other's meals.

Driving for an hour or so along the coast, I notice a little empty beach.

"Zach!! Pull into that parking lot!!!" I exclaimed pointing to the gravel parking lot leading right onto the beach.

Keeping in mind that it's still pretty cold, I put my WDW hoodie over my long sleeve shirt to keep me warm.

Zach and I take our shoes off and walk onto the shore. The sand is cold but extremely soft.

We walk a little closer to the tide and find lots of seashells that have been brought in from the huge waves.

Zach bends down and picks up a yellow and orange scallop shell with a faded striped pattern, slipping it into his pocket.

At this moment, little did we know that this seashell would symbolize our closure that we found on this road trip.

The rest of the drive consisted of the two of us gawking at the gorgeous nature around us.

Tall trees on both sides of the road we drove on, not something we are used to in over-developed LA.

We drive until 6 pm when we arrive in San Francisco.

The whole trip we had a gloom over us from the previous tragedy...but after the new years party with friends, the sadness dissolved and we are feeling very relieved and almost free!!

This was the first day where we finally felt like we were enjoying life again.

A/N- I know it's short, but why go overboard when you don't have to?
