Monday (leaving in 2 days)...
As moving day approaches I find myself reminiscing about all the fond memories I've made this summer.
I'm going to miss my dad and the Herron's, but thats ok because my favorite Herron is coming with me!!
I've started packing already. My clothes are all in suitcases and I have left myself 2 pairs of nike shorts and 3 different shirts to wear these last days in what I've learned to call home.
Since the new house in Beverley Hills already has everything I'll need, I just have to bring my clothes and a few other things.
Me: Zach, I just finished packing my clothes!! It's so crazy that we'll be moving to California together
Zach: Dang babe I haven't even started packing...uh oh. But I know, me too, we are gonna have so much fun. Since you finished, wanna come over?
Me: Is that even a question???
I zip up the last suitcase and head next door.
As I walk in Rosie runs inside to comfort a crying Reese who's plopped on the floor in the middle of the entrance way.
"Reese what's wrong baby?" I ask while picking her up.
"You and Zachy are leaving in 2 days." she pouts.
"Aw honey we will FaceTime you all the time and come to visit." I say rubbing her back as I slowly rock back and forth.
She lifts her head up and wipes the hair out of her face. "Promise?" she asks.
"Promise!" I say holding up my pinky finger.
After 10 minutes of playing dolls with her I finally head upstairs to Zach's room.
I overhear Myta and Mr. Herron talking to him about something, so I sneak downstairs again before they see me.
"I'm serious Zach..." I hear Myta say as they both walk out of his room.
I wait a few seconds before going back up. "What was that all about?" I ask while laying down on his bed next to him.
"Um, well they found the empty condom wrappers. You can imagine they weren't too happy." he replies.
"Oh no, they are gonna think so much less of me now!!" I say nervously.
"Babe, they aren't upset with you, they are just upset with me because they think I was 'taking advantage' of having the house to ourselves."
"Ok well what did they think was gonna happen?" I say laughing.
"For real though!" he replies laughing too.
Around 10pm I head back over to my house. I open my bedroom door to find an empty room with 5 suitcases piled in the corner. No decorations, no clothes on the floor, not even my bedside table clock.
...
Wednesday (Moving day)
I wake up around 9am and realize I only have 3 hours to do the final things I want to do in Dallas.
I throw on my comfy outfit that I picked out 3 days ago and walk downstairs. My dad is sitting at the kitchen table looking very distressed.
"Honey, I'm sorry that I upset you. I should have been more supportive when you told me, it's just Im nervous for you. California is a big place and if something happens to my little girl I won't be able to drive 10 minutes to help you."
"I understand dad, I just want you to know that Zach will take care of me. He's such a great guy and won't let anything happen to me." I say.
I sit and we talk for a few more minutes before I meet Zach in my driveway and we take Rosie for a walk.
We walk to our favorite spot in the park, where we had my birthday picnic.
"Can you believe that summer is almost over?" Zach asks.
"It flew by way too fast, but it was a perfect summer." I reply smiling at him.
Rosie decides it's time to leave the park when a great big German Sheppard approaches our spot.
"Farewell, our perfect picnic place!!" Zach says dramatically.
We walk back home and I begin to load my suitcases into the back of the minivan with the help of Mr. Herron.
It's about 10:30am now and we have to leave in half an hour if we want to make it to our flight on time.
I spend the last bit of time I have in Dallas with the Herron's and my dad out in the backyard.
Reese was swimming with Ryan and the parents were talking by the pool chairs.
Zach and I were swinging back and forth on the swinging bench...one of our favorite places.
"A lot of memories have been made here," I say.
"Your surprise birthday present..." He says while pointing to Rosie who was sprawled out in the grass enjoying the warm sun.
"Our first time skinny dipping" I wink. Zach and I both start laughing.
Summer has been more than I could have ever hoped it would be.
We say our final goodbyes before getting into the car.
"Aw my sweet peas!! I'm going to miss you both, y/n you have become a part of the family over this summer and we will miss you so much more than you know." Myta says tearing up.
"Ohhhh nice mom...missing my girlfriend more than your own son." Zach says. Myta and I laugh as we wipe the tears from our eyes.
"Bye Ryan, I'm gonna miss playing video games with you, even though I'm not very good and I'm 99% sure you let me win on purpose!!" I say giving him a tight hug.
"Goodbye my Reese, thank you for all the memories baby girl." I say picking her up.
I hand her to Zach and she starts sobbing even louder. Mr. Herron has to pry her off of him.
"Bye dad," I say.
"Goodbye sweetheart, I want you to know I'm proud of you." he says while kissing my head.
Those simple words made all the difference to me.
Mr. Herron drives us to the airport and hugs us both goodbye.
We walk inside and check our bags in and go through security. After 15 minutes we begin boarding the plane.
After putting our carry-ons up top, I sit in the window seat with Zach right next to me.
He holds my hand and I rest my head on his shoulder.
"I can't believe this is actually happening!" I say excitedly.
Zach kisses me, "Y/n I love you. Never in a million years did I think I would find someone like you who would move with me to a completely different state and to start a future with."
"I love you too baby, neither did I!!" I reply.
"Please fasten your seatbelt and prepare for take off. Next stop, LAX." we hear the flight attendant say over the speaker.
Let the adventure begin...
