The next week leading up to Christmas Eve was nothing but sadness and fake smiles.
All we have done is watch Netflix and lounge around all day. I can honestly say that neither of us have the will to do anything fun like we normally do.
People who know us as a couple, know that we are constantly feeding off each others energy, staying positive. We are normally always excited about the little things, but recently it's hard to even notice the hours ticking by on the clock hanging in the living room.
Zach and I went shopping for gifts with Myta. We decided to get something small and meaningful for each other.
Zach and I went to the Pandora shop in the mall. We had 2 charms personalized for my bracelet.
One charm is a dogbone with a tiny bow on it, it has the letter R in the center for Rosie.
The other charm is a sun. We called the baby our little sunshine and this is a simple yet private way to always have him/her with me.
I get a tiny sun carved into the temple (arm) of his favorite sunglasses that he wears daily. We both wanted our gifts to each other to be about the most precious gift we had ever gotten, our baby.
December 22nd
Late at night, a random thought pops into my head. I think it's worth sharing.
"Hey Zach," I whisper.
"What is it babe?" he says with the sleepiness still in his voice.
"What if we went on a road trip? To escape this reality...this sad harsh reality."
Zach turns over in bed to face me. "When?"
"Christmas day, after we open presents and eat breakfast. We could take the camper your dad bought last year. Instead of flying back to LA after New Years, we could just drive there and stop a few places along the way. " I reply.
"What about Daniel's New Years Eve party?"
"Do we have to go? I just don't know if I want to be around all our friends yet. I like being able to just be with you and no one else."
"Yeah, we can skip out on the party...there's always next year. Good night baby, we'll talk more about it tomorrow."
"Goodnight my love," I respond planting a soft kiss on his lips.
The next day we talk about it more and form a plan. It's to drive through Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Washington, Oregon, and then back down to LA. This trip should take 8 days in total.
Myta and Mr. Herron will give us some money to cover gas and other expenses. Myta understands that we both need this break more than anything.
Even though it's been a week, we are still heartbroken over this loss. This road trip will give us time to reflect and be together with no distractions...start the closing process.
Christmas Day
"Santa Claus came, Santa Claus came!!!!" Reese shouts while bouncing up and down on our bed.
I rub my eyes and look at the clock. "Reese it's 7 in the morning."
"Come onnnn, I want to open presents!!" she exclaims.
"Ok, ok we'll be down in 10 minutes," I say yawning.
Reese smiles and runs back downstairs.
"Alright babe, I guess we are having an early start to the morning." I laugh.
We do our daily quick morning prayer for our little sunshine, then get out of bed and head downstairs.
We stay in our pjs since Myta bought the whole family matching ones so that we could have the "perfect" family picture. The boys are wearing red and white plaid pants with a navy long sleeve shirt. The girls are wearing the same pants with a red long sleeve shirt.
We all pose in front of the tree for the picture.
I've never really gotten to experience these types of family traditions. Growing up with divorced parents, I would always have my Christmas split in half so I could see both parents and family on both sides.
When I'm with the Herron's, everything is simple. I know this is the family I want to be a part of for the rest of my life.
A/N- This chapter was much more light and easy going since the last one was pretty heavy and emotional.
